Problem Installing 4.8.1!

First, I tried to download the free version of LimeWire. It displayed an error message that said something was wrong with the uninstallation folders. Then, stupidly, I bought PRO. I tried to install it and it diplays a different error message (it says there is an error in writing C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\jrestub.exe) and I click ignore and it gets stuck on JAVA. I read the advice LimeWire gave me which was to install JAVA (which I did and it does not show up on my Windows Task Manager or Add/Remove Programs) and end it in the Windows Task Manager. I don't know what to do.

rebooting=restarting?

Lord of the Rings March 17th, 2005 02:27 PM

Install Java 1st using this installer here: Fixes for Limewire & then use the following version reference to download: See Here about other version. You just unzip it & use it. By the way, try rebooting before installing java & LW.

sheesh am I a slow typer or something! lol :D Yes restarting!

thissucks123456 March 17th, 2005 02:43 PM

it says error 1500. another installation is in progress. being that i am extremly frustrated, i have downloaded a few versions of JAVA.

Hi thissucks123456

Im not sure what type of PC you have.

If you haven't already fixed the problem. Try going to control panel> add or remove programs --- and remove everything java related. LimeWire also.

If you are prompted to restart don't. Download Java and LimeWire to your desktop, and install from there. Install java first then LimeWire.

This is how another member resolved there problems with java errors.

Hope this helps

Have a better day.

thissucks123456 March 17th, 2005 02:57 PM

ok i downloaded JAVA 1.3.5_15 or something

thissucks123456 March 17th, 2005 03:00 PM

oh gosh, now it says access is denied when i try to delete JAVA and LimeWire

Lord of the Rings March 17th, 2005 03:05 PM

Java 1.3 is definitely the wrong version to try. Use either Java 1.4.2 or 1.5 as in the above link I gave for Fixes for LW.

Do a search on your computer for limewire & see how many versions you have installed. You may be having problems b/c you have more than one version with one silently running in the background.

ANother option is to use the 'Other' installer as it's refered to at the download site. eg: See Here about other version. You just unzip it & use it.

By the way if you have a registry cleaner it would be worth giving your computer a clean. eg: HERE (click on link) (Some of those are free I think from memory.)

it was a nice easter gift but oh well. i think i am just going to give up. is there any possible way i can get a refund or something atleast since it didn't even start? or can my mom cancel it on her credit card? thank you soooooo muck for helping me.

Lord of the Rings March 18th, 2005 01:51 AM

Fabion hinted you might not have admin privelidges on your computer to install softw. Is that right? If not then your parents will need to install the softw for you.

Also you may need to clean the registry. If you don't have a registry cleaner you can get one here: HERE (click on link) (Some of those are free I think from memory.)

my parents are not very "computer savvy". i am pretty sure i have admin. control. if i don't how would i get it?

I am having the same problem, I had to reinstall java runtime environment and then downloaded it from www.java.com. Only problem now is that after the install, I double click on limewire and nothing happens.

Natashatk March 19th, 2005 04:31 PM

I have done a clean install of the java and the limewire software. Limewire still will not open. I had no problems till this update

NatashaTK March 19th, 2005 04:39 PM

I have made it a step further... After numerous uninstalls and reinstalls of both limewire and different java versions, I am now able to get Limewire to execute. My only problem is... the limewire splash screen is now frozen, with a message on the splashscreen "please wait while LimeWire initializes..." (5 minutes so far)

NatashaTk March 19th, 2005 05:42 PM

I have given up for today, as I am about to rip out all of my hair. I have uninstalled once more. I am at a loss on what to do. I am back to the limewire not executing when you click on the icon.

I even looked at your thread about installing the kernell32 . dll but I am not exactly sure how to do that, I did do a search on my windows cd.

*cries*

I am so at a loss right now. I even tried to reinstall the old limewire and now that does the same as this version.

NatashaTK March 20th, 2005 07:15 AM

Windows xp Home sp2
Java 2se (sun)
Norton Internet security - I have checked all my firewall settings and did all of the changes adding the Gnutella access.

If I click on limewire, I get the splashscreen which says initializing and nothing happens.

I also tried to follow the directions by symantec, actually I did. I file checking program ran, but I was never prompted to do anything other than allow the system to read from my windows cd.

NatashaTK March 20th, 2005 09:25 AM

SP2 was done as an update.

I had some interesting issues when I did that...

see if you can find a version of Java that is 1.4.2 (sun version)...

I had to downstep to that version when I installed sp2 (note, after my last reformat/clean install, I didn't install sp2...just all relevant hotfixes)...

after finding said version of Java, see if LW will work then

Still does not work.

I have no problems installing, the product installed fine. I run it and it now freezes at the Limewire splashscreen
