I have the same problem, the installation goes ok, buy when I try to start the program, I just won't. I tried reinstalling it, but it didn't help.

I'm using windows xp sp2.

See Fixes for Limewire

If you need to re-install LW, then uninstall it 1st using uninstaller (Start menu>Programs>LW>Uninstaller) That's if it's LW version 4.4 or later. If it's an earlier version then use your Add/Remove Programs control panel to remove it.
Then download both Java & LW & save them to your computer. Don't install over the net. Then after installing LW, do a reboot.

I have basically the same problem. Since I upgraded Limewire to version 4.8.1 it refuses to start up. I get the "Please wait while Limewire initializes..."-window, but after that nothing happens. I've reinstalled it several times, also reinstalled Java, tried every trick mentioned in other threads...don't know what to do anymore. HELP!!

Lord of the Rings April 13th, 2005 05:53 AM

stomeboat remove Java 1.5 using Add/Remove Programs control panel. Then install this version of Java: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html (Choose the JRE) For some reason one version of Java will run better on some people's systems than another.

I've installed java 1.4.2. Now it starts opening like it should, but after the screen saying that I should give Limewire permission to connect to the web, a Norton window automatically pops up, (asking me if that's what I want), I click on "yes" and everything freezes up again. I'm not sure if this is a Limewire-problem or a Norton-problem, but I've never had a problem before I upgraded...

Lord of the Rings April 13th, 2005 09:29 AM

I've heard of Norton IS issues before. I believe the solution was to uninstall Norton & re-install it (only the parts of it you want of course.) Then configure it for LW: Configuring Norton Internet Security

Have tried all the suggestions and nothing works.. there is no repair option in add/remove programs, just remove.
I have uninstalled java and reinstalled both suggested versions.
I have uninstalled Lime and reinstalled.
Absolutly nothing works. Not a good start for a program that is ment to be so advanced and I was going to buy it also.. I am dam glad I tried the free version first.

Would you all provide the following information:

Computer type and CPU
Windows version and sp
HDD
RAM
Firewalls
LimeWire Version
Java Version
Display adapter type and model no.

I know some have already posted some of this information, but we need to know this information to better figure out these problems.

Thank you

Yep, re-installing Norton IS did the trick for me. LOTR, thank you very much for you help. I still don't really understand it, (because I'd already added Limewire to the list of programs with permission to access the internet), but then again I don't really care anymore: LIMEWIRE WORKS AGAIN!

GSXR rider 827 April 28th, 2005 04:31 PM

I tried installing the java app you suggested, LOTR, and it installed successfully. However, i am still having a problem running LimeWire. I'll double click it, and the hourglass will appear for varying amounts of time between 3 to 10 seconds, and then dissappear and the computer will go back to what it was doing as if nothing had happened. Any further insight into this problem from any of you is greatly appreciated.
