Question LimeWire to Limewire PRO...

I have Limewire (the free version) and am considering purchasing Limewire PRO. Do I just install LimeWire PRO over the free version, or should I uninstall the free version then install Limewire PRO?

I've searched Limewire's website so many times but cannot find any answers to my question.

I'd appreciate any input.
Thanks.

You don't have to do anything extra--it's just like a regular install.

Once installed, you won't see the nag screen. You shouldn't notice much else different, but some downloads should connect to better and more sources, and a few searches might get better results.

In other words, most of the Pro benefits are under the hood and the head (that righteous feeling you get knowing you are now supporting a decent open source project ).

Default Nag Screen Says . . .

But, can someone tell me what LimeWire means by this...
"We gaurantee that you will love the improved performance of PRO" ... that is stated on that NAG SCREEN ???

On the PRO upgrade webpage is a link to this disclaimer...

"All Sales Are Final!

There is a free version of LimeWire for you to try before buying PRO, so we will not issue refunds for LimeWire PRO software purchases. We do not have sufficient support staff to process refunds manually for such a large user base. Therefore we are making it very clear up front: no refunds for any reason. This includes but is not limited to cases where LimeWire PRO performs poorly on your computer.
"

That's all fine & good, I suppose but, then how do they propose to GAURANTEE anything?

Thanks from a newbee!

hehe--sounds like typical advertising hyperbole. I have no idea how loving Pro can be guaranteed.

The no refund policy makes sense, especially but I wish the guarantee text would be edited.

cheers

Default Thanks stief

I agree with your ad-hype sentiment.

But more importantly, can anyone tell me if it is really worth the $18.88 price tag?
Are the downloads really that much faster?
Are your Search Results really better?
Are you really connected to more sources?

So far, I have been fairly impressed with performance of the Basic free version 4.8.1 and wonder how much difference the Pro upgrade will really make.

I guess the only question is... do those who made the upgrade think they got their money's worth?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I thought I'd just continue the follow-up with a few Basic vs Pro questions while I was here.

Thanks again for your reply stief!

I think it's worthwhile, because it rewards the developers, both paid and opensource. See http://www.limewire.org/awards.shtml for examples.

I also like that the developers made the decision to make the Free *almost* as good as the pro. Crippled free programs suck.

The occasional times I've tried the Free, I don't see much difference. Sources make the biggest difference, and variations between sessions make a more noticable difference than Pro/Free

btw--since the sode is opensource, people can just build their own Pro, but that's not the point.

In other words, the real reason to go Pro is not some technical advantage IMHO

Default Ok. I see your point..

Thanks again stief.

I only downloaded & installed the Free version a couple of days ago. So, I think I'll run it this way for awhile but, I do agree with you in principle.

If it continues to operate with the efficiency & speed I've experienced thus far, I will definitely give very serious consideration to making that $18.88 contribution to the cause.

You make a fine argument for the case.

Thanks, very much, for all your timely replies and worthwhile advise.
