accessing files saved on an external HD

I have just reloaded (and upgraded to) Limewire Pro from Basic but am having a problem accessing the previous music files on my computer. My problem began when I moved my music files to an external hard drive. I began to get a message that there was an issue with my directory. When I attempted to redirect to my external HD, it would shut down. So, I decided to reload limewire completely at the "Pro" level. The installation went OK (the .exe program is on my C drive but my music files are on my D drive. Is there an easy way to have my current program see these? And, can I set up Limewire to drop new music files directly onto my D-drive instead of C? Thanks very much for your input!

Dear CB

You haven't mentioned much about your system so I can only make a wild guess at your problem.

I will base my guess on

a) You probably run Win XP

b) Have a fairly modern PC

C) You wrote the following:

Most PCs "D" drives are either CD or DVD players/writers, it could be that you have mistakenly set your external as a "D" drive when it should be "F" or beyond.

Therefore, to be safe, check your drives letters and make sure that your external has a different letter to anything else on your system, this will also include digital camera memory drives (these have drive letters too).

This may sort out your "directory/drive" problem.

PS. I run a couple of externals as well, which I have lettered "I" and "N".

accessing music files from another drive

Yes I am running XP on a fairly new Sony laptop. A correction to my earlier problem -- the music files are not located on my external drive, they are located on my D-drive which is a partition of my C-drive. (E,F, & G drives are comprised of my CD/DVD drive, jump drive, and external HD, respectively.) So, I guess my issue is getting my limewire program to see the music files on the D- drive partition. If I just copy and paste the files back onto C -- won't I be defeating my goal of freeing some space on the C-drive? I am hoping there is a set of steps that will cause limewire to see this set of files over on the D-drive. Ideas welcome!

Limewire and "D" drive

Dear CB

If windows can see your "D" drive partition then LW can see it also, therefore I think you need to explain what you are trying to do.

a) Are you trying to play your music files using LW?

b) Are you trying to set up your LW shared directory/folder with your music files?

c) Something else?

A little bit more info is needed.
