Java Problem

Have the newest update for java (5.0 update4). Limewire will not start up after installing. Get message "Limewire was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please download and install a newer version....." Tried to install Java newest again and it comes up already installed. Tried to remove from add/remove programs and comes up "You already have this version of the JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove program utility before reinstalling" That is what I was trying to do.

Have also tried to reinstall Limewire. Also tried to manually install java. It will not automatically install recieve error about uninstalling the java already there.

Any help would be appreciated

Salut, you should uninstall all instances of Java in control panels /add remove program. Then install Java 5 update 4 and everything should be fine.

Bonne chance!

Have you done all your windows updates? I believe there is an update for msinstall that could help.

I tried searching the forum and google, but no dice why it happens beside something is broken.

Ciao

This might be totally unrelated but just in case, do a virus scan. See http://securityresponse.symantec.com...yteverify.html
Make sure your AV program definitions are up to date!!!

Also get these:

1. ad-ware (FREE)

2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)

3. Peerguardian (FREE)

If you're going to re-install Java do it from your own comp., not over the net! So downld the Java installer.

I have been having problems with LW hitting major slowdowns and lockups (though my computer has never completely locked up). Is it ok to have more than one version of JRE installed at once?

I have:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 2
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_04
Java 2 Runtime Environment , SE v1.4.2_07

I haven't manually installed any of these and the info is from the Add/Remove Programs panel.

Unistall all 3 Java and Limewire. If it asks you to reboot after each uninstallation do not restart just uninstall all 4. When done uninstalling, reboot your computer. Download Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4.

Use offline installation

Some people may have Update 4 and it may not be working.

Download JRE Update 3

Use offline installation

Reboot you computer.

After starting back up, install Limewire 4.X.XX.

After finish installing limewire. On the last screen of the installer, it will have a checkbox. If it is checked uncheck it.

Now try running LimeWire from the desktop.

Also try what Lord of the Rings was saying. Try scanning your computer for possible infections of spyware, malware, adware, viruses. There is also a worm called W32.P2P-WORM.ALCAN.A
that might be messing with you.
Ad-Aware will detect this but may not remove it properly.
HijackThis will probably detect it, but I don't know.
Also if you have Comcast High Speed Internet, there is free McAfee VirusScan, Personall Firewall +, and Privacy Service offered to you by Comcast. You will nedd to have a comcast email address to do this. Such as xxxxxxxxxxx@comcast.net. Click for Mcafee & Comcast page.
