LW updated itself!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this ones pretty original!! i shut down limewire for like ten mins and when i reloaded it again i was taken through the install process again its obviously a newer looking version except all my previous incompletes and entire library is gone!! as if that wasn't weird enough the incompletes and library i have is from like my first few days of downloading limewire............about six months ago!!!!:(

Two different installs / two different locations / users?

paulocon August 17th, 2005 08:53 AM

tanx for the reply! Yea after a days long investigating and mind numbing searches through these forums i realised i had two versions, dunno why the icon took me to the older one! Anyhow following the wrong advice from one of the threads i proceeded to lose my incompletes anyway.course then 5 mins after i stumble on the correct thread wit the very simple advice of copying and moving my .dat & .bak files,it was just one of those days............ !!!
anyhow todays a new one so i decided to uninstall all and start affresh.since i did tho my downloding speeds are crap and i'm testing them wit 4 stars, similar (cable) connection, ports fine and no firewall so looks like another day of it.....................
my question does it make a difference if both LW and bearshare are assigned the same port? I'm obviously not running them at the same time it's just that bearshare is flying and LWs not.

download speed is likely based on the parameters of the specific uploaders you are reaching. However, you can up your connection speed setting in the options and that might help a bit.

tanx! must be the answer cos i'm well sure everything is spot on on my side.i've done everything suggested on countless threads here and at the mo it only seems to benefit bearshare.i'm hitting speeds (it says!!) of up to 3Mb on a 1028/128 cable connection!!! Can't be right....i'll take wot i work out should be my max wit LW about 130KB/s??anyway i'm goin to try to help someone else here today as the forums have thought me alot the last few days

Note that there used to be a lot of confusion where BearShare showed bits per second and LimeWire showed bytes per second. In that case, you would have to multiple ours or divide theirs by 8 to be compatible.

Lord of the Rings August 18th, 2005 12:09 PM

Xcuse my interruption, but isp's advertise their speeds in bps (bits per second), & as gbildson pointed out, so does Bearshare. So divide your isp speeds by 8 minus overheads (between 13-20%) will give you your practical speeds in bytes/second. Also as gbildson pointed out, speeds depend upon your sources. Sources speeds can depend on how fast their upld connections are, how many slots they're sharing, etc. Some gnutella clients such as Shareaza (RAZA) are reknown for slow speed offerings due to their priorities & requirements for sharing on other networks. See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help with your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) Remember, browsing hosts can help continue downlds & can also assist in finding more at times. Of course manual researches of the topic will also do very well to assist in this area. (More on overhead loss HERE (click on link))

thank ye both! special tanx for the links, very helpful indeed....i still reckon bearshare is outdoin my connection even with that equation (can still hit up to and over 3Mbs!!) but at least i know now limewire isn't way off the mark.be nice if we could all hav T3....ha ah well, tanx again!!
