The current iteration of installer will revert to retrieving the full installer from our webpage shoudl the online one fail for some reason. Either way, with the new online installer, you should be able to install LW successfully.

Lemme' know if you have further problems tonight.

AFAIK LW used to offer partial downlds for those installing/upgrading but there were often errors such as those with connection issues for one reason or another. Whilst I appreciate your reasons, I hope it has been maximised so the chances of errors are minimal & the backup mechanism to the full downld does work as hoped. Sorry if I sound pessimistic but I am aware of issues people have had in the past & hope that this system counters well for those with such issues. There always seems to be at least some few who have connection issues due to whatever reason such as packet loss, inconsistent connection quality, comp. shared time issues, etc. (Sorry if this seems loud but just being concerned for the general windows user.) At least the LW installers are much smaller than what they were in earlier version! :)

Plus ... people should install Java offline compared to the present system. And installed before LW.

Well, the current installer is designed to have minimal size and requirements. It does use a well-tested networking core (say hello to J0hn) and our uploads and connection stability have improved greatly since the past. Also, as you said the installer size is smaller, so that increases the chances too.

Currently our tests show that the installer fails for one reason or another in between 1/20 to 1/50 cases. If you happen to experience such failure or know of someone who did, please inform us!

hey zab is it suppose to start a automatic download. It is taking me to the download page. But LW is showing the firewall Icon again fore some reason LW doesn't want to port forward have only achieved success once out of 7 tries at UPnP or port forwarding.

zab August 19th, 2005 08:49 AM

Grandpa,

is the mini-installer doing that _every_ time? Here's how it works

1. It tries to get the full installer from Gnutella
2. If that fails, it tries to connect directly to our website
3. If that fails, it launches the web page

So, something on your system is preventing it from accessing our download server. What kind of firewall(s) do you have installed besides the router?

Grandpa August 19th, 2005 08:57 AM

zab I have NIS it is configured to allow all LW. I was able to make the firewall Icon disappear by resetting router and rebooting LW says receiving incoming true but still unable to use auto update. It still just launches the web page. I haven't tried it this morning though I can uninstall 4.9.24 and reinstall 4.9.22 and try it again if you want me to.

zab just started XP 64 the version on that OS was 4.8.1 the update pop up came up but I got the same results with it it took me to the web page. I am running XP firewall on that OS. When I manually DL 4.9.24 it did not show the firewall icon. everything in the router is set to port forward to 6346 and appears to be working fine.
