Default Java installation problems

I am having trouble installing Java. It is already installed on my PC. When I try to install LimeWire it tells me it can't install Java, then gives me a message that I need to install Java when I try to launch. If I uninstall Java and let the LimeWire installation install it I get a message stating that the folder I am trying to install to is locked. Help!!

Thanks.

I get the feeling you had a bad java uninstall. If you tried to install from the control panel and were unsuccessful you may have to go to your C:/Program Files/java and delete the folder. Try installing java after you delete the folder if that doesn't work you may have to go into the registry and delete all the java files in your registry. I would do this as a last resort because if you mess up in your registry you are dead in the watter. There may be a simpler solution that I do not know of.

OK all set. Java wasn't installing properly, yet was showing up in Add/Remove Programs like it was.

Does Java show up under Add/Remove Programs? Mine did even though it did not install properly. When I tried to reinstall I kept getting an error message stating the directory I was trying to install to was locked. When I got this message I went to task manager and clicked the processes tap. I found two java apps running one was the setup and the other was the app. I closed the app and setup continued and installed.

Hope this helps.

poppabear click on the link below and follow the instructions for java in there if you can't install java you may have to go to C:/Program Files/Java and delete the java folder. After you delete the folder you should be able to install java.

Yes java is in add and remove you can uninstall one of them if you want to if you know which one is bad. But it doesn't hurt to have multiple versions of java installed.I have 1 computer that has 3 versions on it only the newest version runs. Thanks for the info AbtG
