Limewire won't open after installation

I've tried installing and un-installing Limewire about 5 times, each time it says that limewire is installed but when I try to open it nothing happens.

I'm on Windows XP, i've tried adding it to my firewall, changing the compatibility and I've tried two different versions of limewire.

Anyone have any idea what I can do?

Grandpa September 4th, 2005 03:40 PM

Where did you get LimeWire from and what versions. The link below will take you to the official site.

I Take it all you people are on windows xp

I have had the same problem, programs not starting exct when you click on them, what progs are you running at the same time, windows xp says it will run everything, but you know as well as I do that is s***, this usually means the computer has no resoucres left to run anything, try shutting down some programs, also it could mean the program is conflicting with something else ie the drivers for the programs are conflicting with other drivers

Glad to see it ain't just me.

a friend sent me one version, and then i got a different version from limewire.com

And some of this stuff I know, but yeah, I'm pretty thick when it comes to computers too ;)

OS, Windows XP
CPU, (no idea what this is, how dya find out?)
Memory (again, not a clue, but i think it's fairly low
Video card & platform Radion 9800/Nvidia 6600/ On board intell 580 (huh?)
Connection (always connected, DSL right?)
LimeWire Version 4.8.1/4.9.11 (tried both i think)
Java Version (not a clue)
Are you using a router (nope)
What firewall you use if any (got one on here, but its not active right now, i even tried activating it and adding LW to it, but still no luck)
What Antivirus if any (command)
Are you new to LimeWire or Experienced (total newbie-but my friend didnt have a problem and she's worse at computer stuff than I am)
An accurate description of your problem (it tells me everything has installed fine, but when i double click or click from the task menu, the timer appears for about 5 secs like its loading but then disappears. it doesn't come up as running on task manager and it doesn't on the processes window either)

*shrug* thats about all I can tell ya, sorry, but it's really appreciated that everyones even trying to help us :)

Grandpa September 5th, 2005 02:24 PM

There are a couple of things you might try to start. This is a fairly new problem to me and as of yet there does not appear to be a clear answer for it.

Unfortunately they have changed the platform of this forum recently and the old pictures are no longer working.

Grandpa September 10th, 2005 07:57 PM

You may have a previous install of java that did not complete try un installing it if you can't then deleting the java folder and re installing it manually. You can find java in the link below. Let us know if it works

When I first downloaded and installed LW, it directed me to and downloaded and installed Java. I thought Java was already on my system, perhaps just not the correct version for LW.
Has anyone asked the developers (i.e. LW support) about this issue? I haven't been around long, but it seems like an awful lot of folks are having install issues.
Hmmm, it isn't just with 4.9.29. I just upgraded to 29, which you've think would add on like a patch, but calls for an uninstall of the previous install. It's working just fine.
Resources are a big issue with installs. I just installed something called Registry Fix (not free, or even cheap) but it allowed me to go through my start up list (which almost never show up in the start up folder anymore, but are salted around the system.) It was nice to shut down things that were loaded on my system when I got it, that I don't subscribe to or use, but put themselves in start up for a quick start. Bye-Bye.
If, and that's a big IF, you recognize the files listed under "processes" in your task manager, you can close a lot of those before installing LW. But don't touch a thing unless you're sure. Even if you're sure and still new to computers, ask someone here what that long list of files is and are. And don't touch systray.exe, Explorer.exe or taskmgn.exe.
I should get off this before I write a novel.

And since my nickname seems to have disappeared, I'll use it in the text of the message.
