LW 4.9.23 doesn't search

A few days ago I upgraded from LW 4.8.1. I came to regret it very quickly. LW would load ok. However, when I tried a search I got a popup telling me that the program was still connecting to the net and that I shouldn't expect much. I left it running for 20 minutes. Nothing had happened. I got nothing. I repeated this undertaking 3 times with the same result.

I understand that LW 4.9.23 has advantages and I would like to use it. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone else had this problem?

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.67 ghz
748 MB RAM
55 GB available on drive
Windows XP Home SP2
Norton Personal Firewall, Win XP firewall too
Intel integrated graphics

PS I found LW 4.8.1 in my Download folder and reinstalled it. As always, it works fine.

Hi alfred_bowman

If you upgraded and had no probs before, uninstall the new ver and re-install the old, see if that fixes your prob.

Don't fix if it ain't broken

Let us know how you got on

It was 4.9.23 that wasn't searching. I reinstalled 4.8.1 and it works like it always did - no problems with it.

I agree that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, the developers of 4.9.23 claim that it is faster and more secure.

I got LW through AllCoolMusic. Should I go back to their site, download it from there and give it a try, or wouldn't it matter?

Thanks for your interest.

Hi alfred_bowman

Thanks for the reply

I Have found that the P2P networks just now are having a lot of trouble, and I use most of the popular ones, they all seem to be in the same situation, I have also found in a lot of the cases if you go back to the older versions they seem to work A lot better.

But make sure you have a decent Firewall and anti spyware progs installed Also a good idea is to have peergaurdian 2 installed which blocks you know who from accessing your computer most of the time

If you got it through the website you said then you've been scammed

The official website is www.limewire.com

Hi Sgt

After reading what you had to say about P2P problems, I am doubly glad I had a copy of LW 4.8.1. I stashed it in a CD for safekeeping.

What happened was that when I booted LW 4.8.1 there was a popup saying that an update was available. It looked perfectly normal so I decided to go with the update, which went smoothly. Then it wouldn't search.

I think I'll leave LW 4.9.23 alone for now and try to monitor the matter. I will check out peerguardian 2.

Thanks a lot for your interest and assistance.

Hi alfred_bowman

Thank you for letting me know how you got on

PG2 is a very good program, makes my comp run A bit slow at times but saves a lot off probs With the P2P networks keeping the ISPS updated, as long as you keep PG2 updated, it works great most of the time.

I Only run it while accessing the P2P networks
