Default Java 5

Hi,

I downloaded Limewire latest one and installed it .
When I ran, it said that it could not download Java.
I installed Java1.3 from a CD and ran Limewire.
This time Limewire said that it needs Java1.4.1 and took me to java.com for a download. I ended up downloading Java5 runtime (15.5MB). Now Limewire once again says that it could not download Java. If I uninstall Java5 and reinstall Java1.3 then it once again asks me upgrade to Java1.4.

Please let me know if there is a way I can start Limewire with Java 5 runtime environment.

Regards,
kia

Install Java manually save it to your hard drive first then go to where you saved it click on it and install it. After you install java install LimeWire. Some people have trouble with the on line installer the link below has links to java in it.

Limewire will work with either Java 2 (version 1.3 or 1.4) or Java 5 (version 1.5).

Java 1.3 is being phased out, due to lack of performance, and missing features needed for advanced features in LimeWire.

Java 5 is recommanded on platforms that have it, but Limewire still targets full compatibility with Java 1.4.

It is then recommanded to install Java separately from Limewire. The online (active) installation of Java can cause some problems with some systems. But it is also available as an offline complete download.

Once you have installed Java, make sure you can see the demos screen displayed on the Sun web site, and that the Java configuration panel is correctly launched from the Accessories menu.

If this Java configuration panel displays several versions, you may need to clean up some of them that you don't more need by going to Accessories/Add or Remove programs (you may eventually need to keep only the latest version of Java 1.4 and the latest version of Java 1.5, if you have applications that don't work in Java 1.5, but Java 1.5 is normally better, faster andfully supports 1.3 and 1.4 applications as well; you normally don"t need now any version of Java 1.3). Make sure, once you have uninstalled some version of Java that the Java configuration panel still displays correctly. If not, you'll have to reinstall the version of Java you need (1.5 recommanded).

This done, you can restart Limewire: LimeWire will use the default Java VM, as configured in the Java configuration panel, or by the Java installer.
