Installing Older LimeWire

I have a few copies of LimeWire and I was wondering if I installed one of the older versions(4.9.28) would it work properly? Is it even possible to re-install an older version of LimeWire?

You would 1st need to uninstall the previous version of LW. Go to Start menu, Programs>LW>Uninstall.

Going backwards in versions does risk corrupting your downld preferences. Incompletes 'might' refuse to load properly depending on how old the version is.

CyberStalker September 17th, 2005 09:19 PM

The version I was considering re-installing is the 4.9.28. Do you think I would have problems seeing that the version isn't really old?

I don't think so. But I can't promise. :)

You could always backup your incomplete folder if in doubt.

Why are you wanting to go back to a earlier version. Are you haveing trouble with 4.9.30

Only A Hobo September 18th, 2005 04:24 AM

I echo Grandpa. Is there aproblem CS???

I think it has been said that downgrading might cause you to loose your incomplete folder partial downloads. (Oh I see LOTR said that already - sorry to repeat it!)

You got it Grandpa! I'm having big problems with it. This new version is using up too much memory. With .28 we could run LimeWire, have other programs running and search through the internet without things freezing up on us. It'll even start freezing up on us when we're just using Windows Explorer! That's why we want the .28 back! I've already told my sister to make backup copies of her incompletes just in case.:)

Have you tried uninstalling Java and LW. Then downloading Java and LW to your hard drive. Then manually installing Java first then manually installing LW 4.9.30

CyberStalker September 18th, 2005 12:42 PM

I'm gonna try uninstalling .30 and reinstalling .28 first to see how that turns out, but I'll keep what you suggested in mind Grandpa. Thanks for all the help!:D

Success!

Just to let everyone know, the .28 works great! I had no problems re-installing it.:D

As you know I am doing some testing and your setting would be some help.

A description of what is happening and what you are able to do with any other p2p programs if you are using any.

Any of the below information you want to provide might be useful and a description of your computers might be helpful. So if I am not to big of a pain in the *** IE you may take the time to provide this information and it may not make any difference at all. But I would like the info to do comparisons with.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

Thanks for any Info you provide.

My download speeds are much better now that I went back to the 4.9.28 version. As for the other things that you asked about, I'll have to get back to you because I'll need to look this stuff up.:D
