Downloading installation doesn't work

Hello all,

I have only been using Limewire since 2 weeks now but must say that it is probably the BEST i know! I am really satisfied!

Now I have a little problem:

I downloaded and installed it at my place without any further worries, the stuff downloads a a very good speed too!
So, everything ok there!

Now, when i told my girlfriend about it she wanted to download it too. That is where the rpoblems started. As soon as she downloaded the installer file and wanted to launch it, the system tries to connect to download teh installfiles but doesn't go any further. The Pc doesn't crash but the whole Network and access to the internet drops and we have to restart as well the Pc as the router etc.

Then i tried to connect with my Laptop Pc at her place. I can launch Limewire, download stuff...but that's it! I can not surf on the net as soon as Limewire is launched, only the downloads still run and when they are finished i also again have to restart the whole router, Pc etc.

I also tried to launch the downloader in order to install a newer version of Limewire from her place but then i jave the same problem as my girlfriends Pc has...everything blocks and i have to restart all over again!

Can anyone help us with this issue? Would be real great!

Whilst i think about it...some months ago we installed Kazaa on her Pc and it JUST WOULDN'T open the "Search", so we weren't ever able to downlaod anything with that either.....but i have precisely the same configuration on my Pc as her...same Firewall, same Antivirus, same Spyware soft etc.

Thanks to all for feedback

Kindest regards

D.

I would recommend to do it this way:

1. Install Java using the "Offline" installer; links to Java here under point #1 Fixes for Limewire

2. Download & install the "Offline" windows installer. ie: don't instal over the net.

3. When opening, set uploads & downlds to 80-90% of capacity so it doesn't take over the whole bandwidth. Under speed setting, tick Disable Ultrapeer capabilities.

Did she configure her firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

1 step further

Lord of the Rings,

Thanks for your help!

We got 1 step further. No we succeeded in installing Limewire on her Pc, but we have following problem now: When we connect Limewire, the internetconnection works. As long as we search for songs, the internetconnection works. As soon as we download a song, the internetconnection stops working.

If I say it stops working, Limewire still downloads the song for example, but if i open Internet Explorer or so i can not surf any sites anymore.

So i can not surf and have Limewire running simultaniously!

Does anyone know what i can do in order to get this fixed!

Kind regards

Reduce downld speed then under Tools>Options>Downloads. Do the same for uploads. This will give much more bandwidth for browsing.
And please don't double-post in future. I see you have 2 identical threads going in different sections of the forum. Usually these get merged/deleted by the moderators.

Thanks for your help! Now that you say it it seems so logical to me that i have to reduce the devoted percentage of download.....but i didn't know that Limewirs took all!

Great help my friend!

Also, do excuse me for double-posting! I don't ever use forums and thought i would get a quicker answer like this...cause i didn't imagine that I would get one at all!

Really cool

Thanks alot

Respect

David

Ps: Deleted the other post ;-)
