You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.

I am trying this ocne again and will let you know if it works...but it doesn;t ever work any of the other times that I haved done it from these same links.

9646gt November 13th, 2005 08:19 AM

didn't work..any other ideas?

Lord of the Rings November 13th, 2005 08:26 AM

See The way to fix the Blank screen on startup & see if that's similar to your problem. It sounds like it.

9646gt November 13th, 2005 06:03 PM

still no go..dont want to buy Pro if I can't get past this issue..

Grandpa November 13th, 2005 06:36 PM

This is usually a java issue I did a search and the link below is the results you might want to read through the links in it and see if any of the fixes work for you.

9646gt November 14th, 2005 07:41 PM

Still cant seem to find anything...

Grandpa November 14th, 2005 07:46 PM

There is one more thing you can try if this doesn't work then it has to be a graphics or a driver issue.

First uninstall Java and LimeWire if you can then follow the instructions below.

You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it.

Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it

Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor now go back to the original instructions and manually install Java then LimeWire.

This should work if it doesn’t then I do not know of another way. Running WinMx should have no effect on LimeWire installing I have WinMx on my machine also along with a few others.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

9646gt November 15th, 2005 07:24 PM

Still not working guys! As far as video goes I have a old *** ati rage video card that I have tried a million and one drivers on. I tried runnin like 4.0.7 of limewire and it wouldn't find java installed. However I think this build wouldn't work on JRE 5. Anyways...I am pretty good with computers and have even worked as a tech for a while so I can give you any information you may need. I am running windows xp sp2 btw...

Grandpa November 15th, 2005 07:53 PM

Just curious if you go to add remove programs do you see Java there.

9646gt November 16th, 2005 10:10 AM

I sure do..as well as when I test my java at java.com it finds it no problem..azueres(sp) even works perfect and it is a java application...any ideas from anyone?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Did you try uninstalling Java 1.5 & installing Java 1.4.2 instead?

Sorry for repeat questions you've already answered. :D

Grandpa November 16th, 2005 07:12 PM

Not to insinuate anything but are you using the Windows or the Mac version of LimeWire. Just checking.

9646gt November 16th, 2005 08:41 PM

aquaxcore November 23rd, 2005 05:34 PM

Sorry but does anyone here know where we can download one of the older versions. Ive exausted all your methods and none of them work and I am still having the same problem. Can someone give me a URL or a link to a place where we can download it?
Thanks...

fleabag November 25th, 2005 12:21 PM

I have the same problem... One thing I did notice, if you just try to open the jave control panel it does the same thing even if lime wire is not open. Is that a java issue or a graphics card issue...

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 03:54 PM

I do not think anyone knows for sure yet. I am starting to sway toward a multiple conflict between LimeWire, Graphics, & Java. There have been problems in the past with LimeWire and Graphic cards and possibly Java hopefully before to long we will figure these out.

If all who are having this problem could leave the information below we would be able to see if there is a pattern and maybe figure it out.

OS, Windows 98/2000/XP
CPU, P4 3.0 GHz/AMD 64 3200+Ghz
Memory, 256MB/512MB
Graphics/Video Card & Platform NVIDIA/Intel Extreme/Radieon & model #
Connection, Dial-up/DSL
LimeWire Version 4.8.1/4.9.11
Java Version 1.4.2/1.5.4
What firewall you use if any
What Antivirus if any
Are you new to LimeWire or Experienced
An accurate description of your problem

An accurate description of your problem - New version of lime wire pro 4.9.37 will cause CPU to bog at the splash screen. After a couple of minutes it will reach the language selection screen. CPU maxed at 100 %. Note that loading java console from windows control panel will cause the same behavior w/o lime wire loaded.

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 08:44 PM

Have you tried editing your registry? if not follow the instructions below.

Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings.

fleabag November 26th, 2005 08:51 AM

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions on deleting the registry keys. First uninstalled java (which locked up my machine during the uninstall). Uninstalled again which was successful. Uninstalled limewire also. I then reinstalled java. Then before reinstalling limewire I went to the java app in the control panel and ran that program. I get a blank window, which is the same thing that happens during the lime wire installation where it gets stuck at the language selection screen. Same size window. I would suggest that limewire uses java at this point. When I try to close the blank java window it locks up my machine… Seems to be a java issue to me… Oh, and yesterday to try to see if it made any difference I installed the latest NVIDIA driver… Didn’t change anything.

You may want to try J2SE v 1.4.2_10 JRE you can get it at the link below. Some people have better luck with it.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

blinx152 December 9th, 2005 09:44 AM

try this:
uninstall you current java
go here ---> https://sdlcweb2b.sun.com/ECom/EComA...4430793F6DB4AB
then, install.
voila should work.
my take on the problem is that somewhere with java updates past 5.0 there is a conflict with display drivers

Lord of the Rings December 9th, 2005 10:01 AM

blinx152 that link won't work unless you're a signed up member of that site. Is it possible to copy the info from that page here?

fleabag December 9th, 2005 11:28 AM

I had one other weird problem with my computer. It could not find one of the USB drivers for my new video camera. The driver was one that is included in windows xp. I built the thing about 2 months ago with wxp pro. I decided to blow it out and reinstall everything including system board driver which I am sure I did before. Bottom line, after reinstalling java and lime wire (same versions that were not working) now work... Including my USB drivers for the camcorder... Good luck to those still having problems.

Grandpa December 10th, 2005 06:20 AM

fleabag

Thanks for letting us know how you cured your problem. Just curious is your version of XP Pro SP/1 or SP/2

fleabag December 10th, 2005 02:15 PM

SP2... I think they call it embedded if the cd came with sp2.
