downloading

Have win98, IE and FIREFOX. Tried several times to download limewire basic. I get to the point where it is installing JAVA, it downloads about one quarter and dies there. I waited a good 15 minutes and it never downloaded any further.
The program and the files were downloaded okay, but the installation of JAVA would not complete.
Any suggestions ??
