Limewire says: "Currently connecting to the network..."

I have a big problem with limewire which makes it absolutely useless to me, so if anybody knows how to help me, I would be very grateful!
Anyway, the thing is, when I type in information, and press search, a message comes up, saying:

"Limewire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network."

This is really annoying as when i continue the search, it takes ages and comes up with no resuts whatsoever.

If you know how to solve the problem, please let me know here.

Thanks!

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

I have windows XP
, the only firewall i am aware of is our norton intrnet security.
I am on broadband, and i am trying to connect from home.
My internet service provider is bt.
I'm using the basic limewire type.
I'm not sharing the program with other computers.
This is my first try as a limewire user
When i clicked on the link, it said, 'your test worked!'

(I'm sorry but this is all i know for now, i'm not too good with computers and therefore im not sure of all of your questions.

hope this helps you

Realise it or not, you have 2 firewalls. Norton & XP. Disable your XP firewall: go to the control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, check the disable box.
Then for Norton see *Configuring Norton Internet Security

After opening LW, let it settle for a while & allow it to connect on its own. You should see at least 3 green bars at the bottom left corner before you can search & downld. Sample image: Connection Bar at bottom left of window sample

If you can't connect after 30 mins, then go to LW's menu bar, select Disconnect, & wait half a min, then File > Connect & wait some time again. If still no success, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Connections & uncheck Connect on startup. (Also go to Options>Speed & tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities. Don't forget to press Apply button after these changes.) Then Quit LW. Then re-open. Wait 15 mins, then go to LW's menu bar, File>Connect ... wait 30+ mins for it to connect.

If none of these ideas work then get back to us. But try to answer more of those questions above.

When i went on to control panel to disable my XP firewall, there was no windows firewall to click on, so i could not do any of the things you suggested.
Are there any more ways of disabling my XP firewall?

Does this mean anything?

I have just noticed that the connections tab at the top of the limewire screen should have a list of all i am connected to, but there is absolutely nothing there. How do i add connections to this, and will this solve my problem?
Please help!!
Thanks

I don't have Windows XP & so can't tell you the exact name for it, but my understanding is that there should be a panel for setting the XP firewall in the Control Panel & within it an option to disable it.

Did you configure your Norton FW as suggested?

Hi Sazzy,
To disable windows firewall,
From your desktop click on "Start", then click on "Control Panel",a new window will open then click "Security Center", then the Security Center window will open, at the bottom it will have an icon that says "Windows Firewall" click on it, another window will open, under the "General" tab there is an option to turn "Off" windows firewall, It says it,s "not recommended" but it's ok if you have "Norton Firewall" running. Tick where it says "Off" then click "OK". Then you can close out the other windows and thats it.
Then try running limewire and see if it connects. Give it adout 15 minutes to get fully connected.
Hope this helps:).
