downloading java runtime environment

Sorry if you have heard this a thousand times, and i have read relative threads and have tried several suggestions, probably doing more harm than good, but i need help like you were talking to a five year old, as when it comes to pc`s i`am new to it all. I recently had a friend install a new HD for me with XP SP2 on it, i used to have 2000! went to limwire to retrieve my pro account and it downloaded without java and says go to java.com for latest download. Press download ( i have tried all manner of download options) and get XP SP2 warning click yellow bar to install active x control to continue download i do this and it continues to the run/save banner and then stops giving me a window installer banner saying this installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can open it or contact application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package. So far i have allowed active x controls past the firewall!!! Please can someone guide me through this so i can get limewire back, i beg you!!!

Also slightly off subject since going to xp from 2000 my connection speed is the same but page download speed even with all cookies in place is taking 3/4 times longer,it`s painful. I`am tight and still use 56k but now it is just too slow. anybody know why this could be?

Any help would seriously be appreciated.

Try the link below choose the Download JRE 5.0 Update 6 then choose Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe

If this does not work let us know

If you're now using XP, Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

IF you have Win XP SP2 then you might be interested in this http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools (SP2 reduces simultaneous connections. This 3rd party installation will increase it again.)

Right downloaded the offline version and saved it to hard disc. Try to run the set up and get a banner reading : error reading setup initialization file.

:(

You're the 2nd person is a week to get an installation error using that patch. I don't know why that should be. Unless it has something to do with installer scripts, etc. Common installation errors (click on link) You're sure you have SP2 right?

Yep deffo got SP2. Problem is like i said that i`am not that up to speed with Pc`s. I have tried several things you have mentioned but to no avail. Unless someone can take me through this abc style, which is asking a lot of anyone, i will have to pay through the nose for someone to sort it for me.Wish i had stayed with 2000 now. Please advise!

Did you follow my last link about updating your installshield parts. update your installshield install engine (click on link)

Do you have LW installed yet?

leighzx December 14th, 2005 10:27 AM

Yes, done what it said and downloaded IsScript8.zip . LW is installed.

Perhaps download the "Offline" Java installer again. Might be an idea to temporarily turn off anti-virus & other protection software until you get it downlded & installed. There must be some reason you're getting this installation error. See NorbiesWorld (click on link) & ask him what he thinks the problem might be. It will mean you'll need to sign up for his forum. But he will no doubt sort this issue out! ;)

All sorted. Went over to broadband today from dial up,tried the offline download again and it worked first time! Must have been losing information on 56k. Thanks for your help.
