BTW the desktop is not a normal location for prefs folder. C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire is the default. Unless you're using 98 / ME which would be C:\My Documents

LW 4.10+ leaves the prefs folder here C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\limewire if you don't have a .limewire folder. Which is default for many programs. Application Data folder being "hidden".

Perhaps you should recheck your setup.
u need to read more closely i couldnt have explained it more simply.. i didnt say it installs it in the desktop folder.. open your eyes.. i said it installs it in the desktop's PARENT folder.. which would be the location that u gave.. assuming my desktop was in the default location.. im not gonna explain it all over again u can just read what i wrote the first time and pay better attention.. the location that u gave:

"C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire"

is where it wants to install it.. yes ive already said that too.. but do u know how it knows where that location is? by looking for the desktop folder - a folder within that same location.. which is just stupid and makes no sence.. why would u look for the desktop folder to know where the users main profile folder is.. its just shitty programming.. anyways.. im over it.. edonky is a hundred times better anyways... not like anybody in here has enough knowledge in computers to help me anyways.. no offence.....

u obviously dont even come close to understanding... nothing runs from a desktop.. whatever that meens... and reverse server?
wtf are u talking about

all the computers have a COMMON desktop.. (that meens they have the SAME desktop folder).. so if something is placed on one computers desktop it is also on the other computers desktops.. if u cant see an advantage in that then i dont know what to say.. cause i sure see one..

and about limewire... the location of the desktop folder should not have anything to do with the way an application works

The folder where your .limewire is in, which is apparently the desktop folder, turn on show hidden files & folders. Chances are (as I hinted earlier) that there will be an Application Data folder there. Or search your computer for Application Data with the show hidden files & folders option turned on. If you find one on your desktop, then the issue is with the way you have your network set up. Application Data represents other program preferences. To have many of your program preferences being sent to the desktop is odd & arguably a security risk. And 'if' that is the case, shows your set up is confusing your programs to know where to find the appropriate location. Shitty programming for all the other programs also I guess you'd say.

Actually I came very close to understanding what you were talking about .

But just one other question from a stupid old man have you always been such a rude genius or did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed. You have quit an attitude do you really think you are better than anybody else or are just an ***.

Well I wish you best of luck on life's journey I have a feeling you are really going to need it.

um yeah all my files r visible for one thing...

i know where the application data directory is.. limewire is not installing the application data (.limewire) in that directory.. its installing it in the same directory that the application data directory is in.. the users root directory (documents and settings\username).. the desktop is in there also (normally).. which ive already basically explained 4 times now... in your last post u even said that one version installs it in exactly where im tellin u its installing it...

as soon as limewire sees that my desktop location is pointing in a different path it just goes ahead and installs its .limewire directory in a directory relative to that path.. (the desktop's parent directory - which of course is no longer "documents and settings\username")... what significance does the desktop folder have to limewire... nothing..

its like its using it as a reference to where it should be installing its .limewire folder... thats ridiculous...

actually heres a real simple way of explaining my problem... forget about my system's setup for a second...

if i was to delete my desktop folder.. limewire would not install.. so there.. anybody wanna give me a reason for this?

now i know u cannot delete the desktop folder.. but if u changed the shell folder path in the registry to a location that does not exist.. it would look to the system as if its been deleted

the desktop should have nothing to do with limewire... except maybe where it sticks its shortcut when its done installing.. (that is if u even told it to put one there) but that isnt the problem here..

blah blah blah ... so your app data folder is in same directory as .limewire. Very poor way to have your system set up (as you have it) imho. But that's your choice. Delete your .limewire folder, install LW 4.10 & your new LW prefs will go to app data folder. So then you won't need to look at it.

u think i chose to have limewire install that .limewire folder there? haha

or r u trying to say that having a common desktop located on a server is a poor way to have my network set up?

cause its actualy pretty convenient.. and no other program has a problem finding the application data folder.. only limewire cause somebody ****** up

r u completely sure limewire 4.10 installs to the application data folder like every other normal program does? cause if so then i guess thats the solution to my problem... unless of course it just starts creating an application data folder in there now instead of the .limewire folder.. which im sure is exactly whats gonna happen since limewire finds your root user folder by looking for the desktop
