".limewire" folder location problem

does anybody know why limewire was programmed to place the what looks like the user configuration data ".limewire" folder in a location relative to the desktop location?

i had a different path for the desktop location on all my computers and limewire keeps putting the ".limewire" folder in the desktops parent folder.. which would be the correct folder if my paths were the default paths. why in the world wouldnt the folder be placed according to the "%userprofile%" path itself instead of a less significant folder "%userprofile%/desktop"... it makes no sense..

thats like if u wanted your bike in the garage and told somebody to make sure its next to the car cause u know the car is normally always in the garage and then one day for some reason u parked outside and so thats where the idiot left the bike cause u never told him u wanted it in the garage u just said next to the car.. haha.. there now that should clearly explain my problem.. i hope u understand it

so as of right now in order to keep using limewire i have all my desktop paths on all my computers set back to the default.. and i dont want that... so if anybody that knows a lot about this or any limewire developers can help me ide appreciate it..

thanx :)

What do you mean you set them back to default? How were your desktop files set or how is it you want them? Do you have them set to different partitions or drives or something? It's got me puzzled.
Do you normally downld to the desktop or root level of a drive or where do you normally downld to (path)?

the system has default location for its "shell folders"... desktop is one of the shell folders.. i have a different path for my desktop because i use a common desktop for all my computers... my question is why limewire is not installing its ".limewire" directory in the user's root shell folder... and instead installing the .limewire folder in the parent folder of the shell folder "desktop"

i hope theres a developer or someone that has knowlege in the registry looking at these posts.... otherwise u probably arent gonna understand what im asking...

maybe this should have been posted on a different thread.. does anybody know how to move a post?

Just curious but why don't you just install it on the server.

You posted in the correct section. The LW proggies check most of the sections. A normal user cannot move a post.

first of all i only want my data on there and second of all every system running limewire would be trying to put that directory in the same spot... wouldnt work

too bad they arent seeing my post haha...

i dont know much about programming.. but i know a lot about the OS and it seems to me unless they have a specific reason for this its gotta be a mistake or bad programming or something.....

so the limewire developers will only answer easy questions or what?

Lord of the Rings January 18th, 2006 12:22 PM

Arrogant sod. What you downld LW Basic & expect/demand to communicate directly with the LW programmers. What the '
There's lots of other p2p forums around.
BTW the desktop is not a normal location for prefs folder. C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire is the default. Unless you're using 98 / ME which would be C:\My Documents

LW 4.10+ leaves the prefs folder here C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\limewire if you don't have a .limewire folder. Which is default for many programs. Application Data folder being "hidden".

Perhaps you should recheck your setup.

I would not expect the Dev to answer you question the way you have set your systems set up is very unusual most people do not run multiple computers from a single desktop and I really do not see an advantage to doing that. It is almost like you are running a reverse server  why? what is the advantage ?
