A fix for Limewire GPF on startup

This is not sophisticated, and I am not going to surmise or investigate why this worked. Don't care; it worked for me. I have spent two weeks combing these forums and other sources for the answer to why limewire 4.9.something quit working and why a fresh install of 4.10, after a clean deinstallation of 4.9, also would crash on startup. Some say it is java this or that, some say it's the boogie man, and some just rant.

Try this:
1. Take note of your current installation directory. On Windows, the default is C:\Program Files\Limewire; that is what I had.
2. Uninstall whatever version that you have.
3. Download 4.10
4. Install 4.10 TO A DIFFERENT DIRECTORY THAN WHERE THE PREVIOUS INSTALLATION WAS. I had the default, and I had tried to reinstall three times, but I had always just gone with the same directory. So, for whatever reason, it occured to me to name a different directory today when I tried it. I chose C:\Program Files\Limewire_4.10.5. I doubt that it matters; it you have whatever problem I had, then probably any name will do.

Just trying to give a little back. Have a good one.

Thanks for letting us know what worked for you.

You could have also un installed LimeWire and Java Then done a computer search by going to start/search/all files and folders, make sure the show hidden file and folders is checked.

Then delete all of the files it finds in the search. After completing this re boot then you can install Java first then LimeWire in there default location.
