limewire problems I had Limewire working ok, and when I did a cleanup of my C drive, I could have deleted a Java file, and now LIme wire won't work. I have tried to install Limewire again, but it keeps telling me.. Could not cteate registry key unable to load Java Runtime Environment, get new version at www.java.com. As I already have Java 1.5.0_6 installed on my computer ( I am running Windows XP with service pack 2) I downloaded it again and when I tried to install it again, it said I already have it. When I doubleclick the Jave icon in the control panel it says "The system cannot find the file specified "c:\program files\java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\javacpl.exe Could someone out there please help me with this, I have tried everything I know, I even did a system restore which did not solve the problem Kindest regards Lance have a nice day::) |
You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there. Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary. Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire. Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Use the offline installer http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml |
Thanks Grandpa for your quick reply. I am unable to remove J2SE update 4 and 6 from my add and removes program it says in both instances "fatal error during installation" also I have the Standard Edition 1.3.1_16 which previously had some MGs in it, but it is empty now and It won't let me delete it either. I have downloaded limewire and Java and left it in my downloads until I get further instructions from you. KIndest regards Lance have a nice day |
You will need to go to Start/Run type regedit into the box this will open the registry editor Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it. Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor now go Start/Search/Files and Folders type in Java delete anything that says java except the new install file you saved to your hard drive. Once you finish reboot your computer then install Java then LimeWire. Be careful when you are in the registry do not delete anything other than I listed above you can mess up your machine if you accidentally uninstall something or change your registry settings. |
Hi again grandpa when I went into HKEY_current _user I can find Javasoft and when I expand it it has....Open up Java plug in, runtime environment and Java web start. Are these the ones I have to delete Many thanks Lance |

Thanking you again Kindest regards Lance have a nice day:) |
When you were in the registry and you found the folder marked javasoft did it say why you could not delete it. |
Hi Grandpa, the last message I sent you was "when I tried to delete the 2 Java programs from the "Add and Remove Program" in the Control Program. Also when I click on the Java Icon in the Control Panel it says.... System can't find the Registry Key... Hkey_local_machine\software\javasoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.5.0_06 sorry for that KIndest regards Lance have a nice day:) |
HI again Grandpa when I sent you the message before the last one, I did not say it was from the "Add and remove Program" (which it was). My sincere apologies for that for sounding so rude. I appreciate everything you are trying to do for me Kindest regards Lance. |
Were you able to delete all java |
Hi again Grandpa, I gone through the registry again and there no Java files on it. I have done a search and got rid of the lot even typed in JRE and got rid of that too. Rebooted and tried to install Jave from my Downloads file, but it still says I have it. IN the "Add and remove programs, its still there can't get rid of it, it says Fatal Instalation error. ONce again many thanks for your effort Kindest regards Lance have a nice evening |
Perhaps we should send birdy around to do a house call. lol :D This may or may not help, but may I suggest you get Crap Cleaner (click on link) as this will help to clean out your registry. It's FREE & I found it does a very good job. If Norbie recommends it, then that's a plus! ;) BTW if you still have a problem after that, then get Norbie to help sort it out. ie: post about the java installation problem on his forum. |
limewire problems HI Lord of the rings. thanks for your reply. I tried the Crap Cleaner but no good, I also noticed a newer version of LImewire 4.10.5 I ran it, it also had Java in it and BINGO LImewire is working again. Maybe the older version of Limewire 4.10.3 had some bugs in it , but I'm back in business. Many thanks KIndest regards Lance have a nice day:) |
