![]() After a LW crash last night I tried loading it up today and got the following message: Quote:
Now this install was working fine before last night. How could the install have become corrupted?. I've tried doing a fresh install over the existing one, same message. I tried uninstall/reinstall - same message. I've downloaded the latest version - same message. I'm currently downloading the latest java but I don't think it will help in this case. However I have noticed every time I do an uninstall reinstall, the reinstall briefly flashes up the window advises of removing existing old files from the previous install. This leads me to suspect there is a corrupted file somewhere? Perhaps a reg file in the windows folder? Everytime I do an uninstall I've done a search under LW and deleted any scattered files it throws up, no joy. I am using WXP SP2. ![]() |

![]() Uninstall it, make sure it's all gone, then reinstall but use the "Offline installer". Instructions here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=50931 ![]() If you have probs with the Java, there's a link to the offline installer for that in the thread. |

![]() Sorry I didn't mention it but I've already used the offline versions of both Java and LW installer. That's what I was working from all along. In any case after finishing the Java download last night I tried using it and it said I was already up to date on that. It must be some kind of corrupted file that the LW uninstaller isn't removing. ?_? |

![]() Basically start from scratch. The crash may have corrupted your Java or/& LW or/& LW prefs. So, use the Add/Remove control panel to remove Java. Then reinstall the java with the offline as suggested. Then before installing LW, delete the LW prefs folder; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.) Then reinstall LW. The installer will uninstall the previous version at the beginning of installation so that part looks after itself! ![]() Good luck! * OH I should warn, if your lw was running whilst your computer crashed, then your incomplete files will refuse to load. You can reload them by going to the LW Library window, select incomplete folder, select all incomplete files & press Resume button. This will force them back into the downld window. BUT ... they'll all start from zero % no matter their size or previous % downlded. ![]() |

![]() Thanks for the info! I seem to have solved the problem by doing the opposite of what most folks need to do by going for the online installation instead of the offline. However I will make a note of the details you told me in case I have problems in the future and need to delete any folders and such. Ta! ^_^ |
