Ridiculously frustrated with installation... For the past few weeks (yes, weeks) I've been trying to install Limewire properly. Every time I do it, I get an error message that Java is not installed. However, I've downloaded the latest version (offline installer, as many posts here said), but to no avail. Java is in fact installed, but Limewire still won't work. I've browsed 10 pages of this forum, trying everything suggested, but nothing has been working. As you can imagine, I'm starting to get very frustrated. If it helps at all, I have Windows XP Professional. Any help would be appreciated! |
1. Go to your Add/Remove Control panel & remove "all" java versions you find. Then install the "Offline" JRE version of Java from here Java 1.5 (take the JRE) 2. Make sure you have your firewall & modem/router set properly (also see upnp section, if your modem/router doesn't support UPnP then see manual port forwarding section below that) here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) 3. Try steps 2 & 3 here Fixes for Limewire & make sure your LW prefs are deleted if you have any. 4. Then install the "Offline" LW version. |
I followed your directions exactly the way you said, but it's still not working. Any other advice? |
I guess you could downld the "Other" version listed here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml All you do is unzip it & use it. But I don't know why your LW isn't seeing your Java. You did install the JRE java right & not another version? And version 1.5 & not 1.3 or other? If still problems with the Java after that, I guess uninstall the Java & try version 1.4.2 (take the JRE) |
The Java I installed is listed as "J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6," so I assume it's the correct one. Thanks for your help. I'll try the other version and see what happens. |
J2SE but JRE not JDK or other. eg: JRE 5.0 Update 6 or J2SE v 1.4.2_10 JRE And best to install it "Offline". There's often problems with incomplete or corrupt installations when installed online. |
I just uninstalled it and am now installing the other Java (1.4.2). Hopefully it'll work this way. |
