OK we will give it a try. But remember this can mess thing up if you remove the wrong thing by mistake.

(#1) First go to the Control Panel then Add and Remove Programs and uninstall LimeWire first then all versions of Java. If it doesn't let you don't worry about it (attachment #1).

(#2) After you finish uninstalling them go to Start/My Computer/Local Drive (C: )/Program Files look for the LimeWire and Java Files and delete them. (attachment #2).

(#3) Now comes the fun part go to Start/Run and type regedit into the box (attachment #3)

(#4) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it. (attachment#4)

(#5) Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it(attachment #5)

(#6) Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor. Unfortunately it will only let me attach 5 files so you will have to do this step without visual aids. Also when you are in the registry all files a listed alphabetically. If the files listed are not there don't worry about it just delete the ones that are.

(#7) Reboot your computer

(#8) With that done go to the Java button at the bottom of this post get Java the offline installer and save it to your desktop. then go to the Link below and get LimeWire the offline installer and save it to your desktop.

(#9) Now click on the Java installer and install it. (Hopefully all goes well here)

(#10) Reboot

(#11) Now click on the LimeWire installer and install LimeWire.

(#12) Reboot

(#13) Start LimeWire and cross your fingers say a prayer or whatever because if this doesn't work, I do not know what else to do. This will work about 1/2 the time with cases like yours where Java just will not install properly. I do not know the cause of this issue but if anyone else does I sure wish they would share it with me. Any way Good Luck and may the computer gods be on your side.

OK I went back and I see you have Windows 2000. I have never used 2000 I went online and found these instructions for 2000. Once you get into the registry editor go to step #4.

How to edit the registry
To edit the registry, Microsoft recommends that you follow the steps in the Microsoft documentation only. If possible, use the Windows user interface instead of directly editing the registry.

Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that result from incorrectly using Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For more information about editing the registry, follow these steps in RegistryEditor: 1. On the Help menu, click Contents.
2. On the Contents tab, double-click Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
3. Double-click the topic that you want to read.

The link below is to the page the instructions came from.

ok i did everything and it still says i have a java problem. So what do I do with the whole java thing because we know it isn't lime wire. Do you think installing an older version of java or something might work?
