wont work at loading interface

I had limewire on my computer for a long time. Then suddenly it started acting strange. It would shut down and then reload again not reloading any of my downloads. So I deleted it. It was version 4.08. Then recently I downloade version 4.10. It installs fine and it starts to load properly. Then when it gets to loading interface it either stays on there or if you click on it or something pops up it freezes. If installed and uninstalled constantly I don't know what to do.

Lord of the Rings March 26th, 2006 12:21 AM

Java

Update your Java to 1.5 & delete your LW preferences folder. Instructions for these in steps 1-3 here Fixes for Limewire.

xxvicious13xx March 26th, 2006 11:49 AM

post reply isn't working

I didnt everything I was told in the steps that I was sent. It is still freezing at loading user interface. After I did all those steps the new java I installed poped up with this
I tried every thing you told me to and it still didn't work. It is doing the exact same thing. Is there anything else I can do?
I also got this report from Java after I did all the steps

Java

Then uninstall Java 1.5 using the add/remove control panel, then install the 1.6 beta http://java.sun.com/javase/6/ (choose the "Offline" JRE version which is about 19 MB to downld)

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Also see 1. click LW icon & it begins to initialize but then stops and nothing happens & also this2. The way to fix the Blank screen on startup, & then also this just in case 3. GeoForce 3D setting

4. Also try changing the compatibility mode of LW to Win 2K or Win NT.
(sample in step 4 or 5 of above link)

I tried all that and it is still doing the same thing and I cannot find my video card driver to save my life I looked everywhere in advanced display settings. PLEASE HELPP!!!!!

Lord of the Rings March 29th, 2006 11:00 PM

Loading Interface

Reboot! Then try deleting your LW preferences (if there's any) again & try opening LW.

I've seen same symptons before & those fixes normally work.

I presume you're logged in with admin priviledges ???

BTW what type of graphic card do you have? Do you know the brand & model?

xxvicious13xx March 30th, 2006 07:51 PM

i have no idea what video card i have all I kno is that I went on display setting to the advanced part and looked through ever tab and there was nothing there that said anything about video card. & what do you mean by reboot?

Grandpa March 30th, 2006 09:04 PM

What he means by reboot is shut your computer off and restart it.

You can find your graphics card by clicking on Start/My Computer on the left side of the screen click on view system information. This will bring up the System Properties screen click on the Hardware tab. Then click on the Device Manager tab. Then expand the Display Adapters button.

xxvicious13xx April 2nd, 2006 05:26 PM

I played around with java and my video settings and it turns out it's just a small video setting. If you have this problem, you do not need to install older versions of anything!!!. You need to rightclick the desktop, select "properties" and switch to the "settings" tab. Click "advanced" and find the tab with your video card driver settings. Switch the "Antialiasing settings" to "application controlled" Note: this works for Nvidia drivers, not varified on ATI cards. I also do have the most recent Nvidia drivers (81.98) installed.

^^^Ok I tried that and I got to my video card but there was no where that allowed me to change it there was nothing that said antialisasing settings. This is the kind of video card i have: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE?PE?GV Graphic Controller. I did every thing I was told and lime wire still wont work. I need help please

Grandpa April 2nd, 2006 05:46 PM

Unfortunately I stay away from anything that says Intel. I do not now how to switch the settings on your graphics. Perhaps another member does

xxvicious13xx April 2nd, 2006 05:50 PM

ok thanks lets just hope some one does. DO you have any other advice that doesn't invole a video card?

Grandpa April 2nd, 2006 05:57 PM

No generally the problem you are having is caused by a corrupt Java install as the lord suggested earlier. Usually what fixes it is to uninstall and reinstall Java and LimeWire

xxvicious13xx April 2nd, 2006 06:33 PM

i thought that wouyld fix it but i did that like a bunch of times. I had gotten lava from the link he had sent me, but idk

Grandpa April 2nd, 2006 07:10 PM

Un install Java all versions and click on the java icon in my Sig choose manual. Then choose the offline installer for Windows. Save it to your desk top then reboot your computer. After your computer reboots click on the java installer on you desktop and install Java. Once that is done click on the Java icon in my Sig again choose manual again and then choose verify and verify that Java is installed properly.

xxvicious13xx April 2nd, 2006 07:20 PM

sig?

Grandpa April 2nd, 2006 08:09 PM

The button that says Get Java Software at the bottom of the post. Just click on it

xxvicious13xx April 3rd, 2006 06:46 PM

ok I did all that and this time it stopped at the loading download window. I verified my connection and it said everything was ok. I really dont know what to do and I'm desperate I really want lime wire! <3

Grandpa April 3rd, 2006 07:31 PM

Have you uninstalled your previous versions of Java. If not uninstall them and reboot your computer. Then try again

xxvicious13xx April 3rd, 2006 08:23 PM

No which previous versions should i get?

Grandpa April 3rd, 2006 10:13 PM

#1. Uninstall all versing of Java from your computer.

#2. Then reboot your computer.

#3. After you do that click on the Java button at the bottom of this post, when the page opens choose manual install.(1st picture) Then choose the offline installer,(2nd picture) save it to your desk top.

#4. Once it is saved it to your desk top click on the installer on your desk top and install Java.

#5. Now reboot your computer. Once your computer has rebooted come back to this forum and click on the Java button again. Choose manual install again then click on the Verify button on the Java page.(2nd picture), It will take you to another page that has a verify button on it click it.

#6. If when you click on the verify it says Congratulations, you have the latest version of Java then Java has installed properly.

#7. Now try to open and run LimeWire if it wont run uninstall LimeWire and reboot your computer.

#8. Go to the link below and get LimeWire use the offline installer and save it to your desk top.

#9. click on the LimeWire installer on your desk top and install LimeWire

#10. Open and run LimeWire

#11. If after all of this it still does not run. I do not know what to tell you. Maybe you have some software on your computer that conflicts with Java. I don't know. Try BearShare Lite or some other P2P software.

xxvicious13xx April 5th, 2006 05:54 PM

is there any way i can check if another program conflicts with Java?

Grandpa April 5th, 2006 07:07 PM

Go to the Java Icon at the bottom of this post click on manual install. On the right hand side of the page click verify install and verify your Java install. What did it say.?

xxvicious13xx April 7th, 2006 05:09 PM

it said like Congratulations now you have the latest version of java. I downloaded the first offline Java installer(the one with the astrick) was i supposed to install the one below that instead?

Grandpa April 7th, 2006 06:57 PM

No I was just checking on which version of Java you had. Are you still getting the same error message when you try to install LimeWire.

xxvicious13xx April 8th, 2006 11:40 AM

no it doesn't say anything is wrong when I install lime wire its when I try to actually use it there becomes a problem.

Grandpa April 8th, 2006 11:48 AM

Are you still getting the error message. What is happening when you try to use it.

xxvicious13xx April 8th, 2006 04:00 PM

the java isn't giving me an error message at all. It starts to load fine and i think its going to work, but then it just stops and like freexes at opening download window. So then I don't touch it thinking it loading, but if I let it run and a window of something else goes up it just kind of leave its image on the lime wire load screen when I close it. Or if I double click it the load screen goes blank, or it will just go blank after a while. I was wonder if I could try and older version of lime wire like version 8 its the last one I used to have that worked.

Grandpa April 8th, 2006 05:42 PM

You can get 4.0.7 at the link below. But do not click on where it says get LimeWire Free it is a scam site go to the bottom of the page and click on 4.0.7

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=limewire

xxvicious13xx April 8th, 2006 08:38 PM

ok I did that but when i went to start limewire 4.7 and it said it couldn't find a suitable JAva runtime environment.

Grandpa April 8th, 2006 10:29 PM

Well that means your Java install is corrupt. For some reason when you are uninstalling Java you are not getting it completely uninstalled. The next step would be to uninstall Java then edit your registry. But the truth is you have been having a little bit of a hard time trying to follow my instructions. And I do not fell comfortable giving instructions for going into the registry. If you make one mistake in there good bye Windows. Perhaps someone else can see something I have missed.

xxvicious13xx April 9th, 2006 02:03 PM

just tell me what to do if i **** it up o well. Its my computer, and even if i do have a hard time I always double check to make sure befor i do something.

Grandpa April 9th, 2006 03:45 PM

OK we will give it a try. But remember this can mess thing up if you remove the wrong thing by mistake.

(#1) First go to the Control Panel then Add and Remove Programs and uninstall LimeWire first then all versions of Java. If it doesn't let you don't worry about it (attachment #1).

(#2) After you finish uninstalling them go to Start/My Computer/Local Drive (C: )/Program Files look for the LimeWire and Java Files and delete them. (attachment #2).

(#3) Now comes the fun part go to Start/Run and type regedit into the box (attachment #3)

(#4) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to software expand it look for Java Script if you find it delete it. Now collapse it. (attachment#4)

(#5) Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE go to software expand it look for Java, LimeWire & Magnet delete them if you find them.Collapse it(attachment #5)

(#6) Now go to HKEY_USERS go to S-1-5-21 the first one then go to software expand it look for java if you find it delete it. Collapse it. Close registry editor. Unfortunately it will only let me attach 5 files so you will have to do this step without visual aids. Also when you are in the registry all files a listed alphabetically. If the files listed are not there don't worry about it just delete the ones that are.

(#7) Reboot your computer

(#8) With that done go to the Java button at the bottom of this post get Java the offline installer and save it to your desktop. then go to the Link below and get LimeWire the offline installer and save it to your desktop.

(#9) Now click on the Java installer and install it. (Hopefully all goes well here)

(#10) Reboot

(#11) Now click on the LimeWire installer and install LimeWire.

(#12) Reboot

(#13) Start LimeWire and cross your fingers say a prayer or whatever because if this doesn't work, I do not know what else to do. This will work about 1/2 the time with cases like yours where Java just will not install properly. I do not know the cause of this issue but if anyone else does I sure wish they would share it with me. :D Any way Good Luck and may the computer gods be on your side.

xxvicious13xx April 13th, 2006 02:45 AM

thanks havent done it yet but i will soon

xxvicious13xx April 13th, 2006 08:17 PM

(#3) Now comes the fun part go to Start/Run and type regedit into the box (attachment #3)

^^^^ Ok i did that and a 16 bit MS-DOS subsystem window poped up after i hit ok. What do i do?

Grandpa April 13th, 2006 08:46 PM

OK I went back and I see you have Windows 2000. I have never used 2000 I went online and found these instructions for 2000. Once you get into the registry editor go to step #4.

How to edit the registry
To edit the registry, Microsoft recommends that you follow the steps in the Microsoft documentation only. If possible, use the Windows user interface instead of directly editing the registry.

Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that result from incorrectly using Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For more information about editing the registry, follow these steps in RegistryEditor: 1. On the Help menu, click Contents.
2. On the Contents tab, double-click Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
3. Double-click the topic that you want to read.

The link below is to the page the instructions came from.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q322755

xxvicious13xx April 13th, 2006 09:03 PM

where is the help menu?

xxvicious13xx April 13th, 2006 09:05 PM

nvm tht post. Ok so it says look up javascript I only see java soft in mine

xxvicious13xx April 13th, 2006 09:18 PM

ok NVM those post I did all the steps now im on to the install. When i went throught the registry there was no trace of lime wire, and only one had java. Is that a problem???

Grandpa April 14th, 2006 07:33 AM

No it is not a problem. It just means LimeWire uninstalled properly

xxvicious13xx April 14th, 2006 02:49 PM

ok i did everything and it still says i have a java problem. So what do I do with the whole java thing because we know it isn't lime wire. Do you think installing an older version of java or something might work?

Lord of the Rings April 14th, 2006 03:23 PM

Maybe ... but also look at changing compatibility mode of LW to either (try both) win 2k or NT; step 5 here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Also delete your LW prefs folder again before opening LW!

xxvicious13xx April 14th, 2006 04:56 PM

OMG your amazing!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS! Thank you so much my limewire works now and I couldn't have done it with out you, and i apalogize for being such a pain! Grandpa and lord of the rings you guys are life savers<3333333333

Grandpa April 14th, 2006 04:58 PM

Glad to see it is working, Enjoy :D

Lord of the Rings April 14th, 2006 05:59 PM

Can you tell us which step worked for you ? ;) :) Or appeared to work for you :D

xxvicious13xx April 14th, 2006 10:29 PM

well i went into the registry and i did that, and so i didn't work, but I think it might of helped. Then I followed this step

Maybe ... but also look at changing compatibility mode of LW to either (try both) win 2k or NT; step 5 here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Also delete your LW prefs folder again before opening LW!
