Java won't stop downloading!!

Hi there,

My noob of a friend tried setting up limewire, the latest version, basic.

However, since he doesn't have Java yet, limewire installer automatically downloads it for him.

However, he has broadband, but the Java apparently will not finish downloading.

He had been leaving the download for over 3 hours, on broadband.

Any ideas?

Thanks

He should download Java using it's offline installer from here
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then, when Java's installed, install LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

I think he'll have less trouble doing it this way;)

Thank you, Birdy. His Limewire installed successfully.

However, now he is having another problem. Once he opens Limewire, he says the big logo just stays there at the middle of the screen. No loading bars, nothing.

Any ideas?

The first thing to try would be a new Java install but since he's only just done that... might not be much point:)

Try deleting the preferences folder, instructions here
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of his settings within tools > options, so if he's not sure of his settings he should write them down (so that he can reset things afterwards). LW must be closed before deleting prefs. Also, it's a hidden folder, so he'll have to show hidden files & folders in order to see it!!

If that doesn't help, there's some more info here:D

I'm not quite sre, actually. All he said was, he opened the program, the big limewire logo comes, and.....just stays there. Nothing else.

Get your friend to look at the fixes in my last post, try them out (starting with deleting the prefs folder) & see how he goes with it all. Maybe you should tell him to post here on the forum if he still has problems! I'd say he owes you a beer for helping him out so much;)
