HELP - LimeWire SetUp Dialog

Everytime I get to the part that asks if I would like limewire to start automatically, when I click "next" the thing freezes. I can't close it without restarting my computer and even worse, I can't continue on in order to complete the installation and start using limewire. My computer is pretty new, using Windows XP and I don't have many files or programs on it at all. And I have cable internet. What could be the problem???

Try steps 1, 3 & 5 here: Fixes for Limewire

Hi, I have the exact same problem as the OP. I've tried steps 1, 3 and 5 -- all unsuccessful, they don't make a difference.

Is there anything else I can do? I really want to get Limewire working. I used to have it a long time ago, deleted it, but I would like it again.

Thanks.

chinchila_0 perhaps you should do a clean up of your system. Get CCleaner (click on link) & run it through to clean up your registry. Then downld both the "Offline" versions of Java & LW. Use the Add/Remove control panel to remove all previous versions of Java. Then install Java 1.5 (take the JRE). Then install the offline version of LW http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Clean up the registry to rid it of obsolete files that aren't used anymore such as those that belong to earlier versions of LW. If still problems after re-installing Java & trying to install LW, then cancel it & reboot & try again. ;)

Thanks for replying.

I have the newest version of Java (got it yesterday), so I don't think Java is the problem. It was yesterday (I had version 4.1 or something) and when I tried to download LW using the online and offline versions, it would freeze at Installing Java. I removed Java on my computer, and I now I have the newest version.

So, now LW had downloaded, I have the program on my computer. The problem is that it is freezing in the Setup Wizard -- Was on step 5 (choose if I want it to automatically start or not), but now it's freezed twice on step 4 (choosing connection...cable/dsl, etc).

I've tried using Windows 95, 2000 and NT compatabilities, none working. I've also deleted the LW file in Application Data.

I'll try the clean up of my system, and see if that works. If not, I'll try removing Java and LW and start fresh.

Ah ... you had a much earlier version!!! Go to your add/remove control panel & see if LW is listed. If yes, remove. Versions earlier than 4.4 used the add/remove control panel to remove or else, there was an uninstaller within the program folder (which would also appear in the Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstaller. This depended upon whether you originally used the english or international installer. They were different type of installers.) The installer LW uses now is totally different to previously & doesn't use the Add/remove control panel at all! It will uninstall previous versions later than 4.4 at the beginning of installation process.

After doing this, still run CCleaner to make sure. ;)

I was talking about limewire. Sorry I edited my previous post later than your post. Please re-read.

(edit: Oh ... you deleted your post. :D)

The version 4.1 I was talking about was for Java, not LW. I haven't had LW on my computer since like, February.

^^Ok thanks, I'll take a look at that.
