limewire automatically uninstalls after a week

i have been using limewire for years. ever since i bought a new emachine with windows xp, i have had this problem.

i have deleted everything reinstalled from the official website, etc. java is up to date.

i am able to use it fine and then after a week the complete program is gone. if i do a restroe to a previuos date, the limewire folders reappear but the error message says to reinstall.

i have spybot and addware and do not believe it is spyware that is doing it.

Do you have any other security software?
Some of them persist in deleting LimeWire, falsely labelling it hazardous..

Do you let anybody else use the computer?
Some of them persist in deleting LimeWire too, falsely believing it is hazardous. :p

thanx for the reply

i have AVG as my anti virus software. i do not see any deletes in the log.

perhaps that is doing it but it is recommended as the best freeware.

i also have aol spyware protection but i do not think it does much anymore since i am no longer on aol.

noone else uses my computer

Maybe it was the AOL thing. There were a couple of those generic antispyware
things that deleted P2P software and the one AOL licensed and labelled was
probably one of those.

Better get [StartupList] and post the report it makes.
Some of that emachines software might be at fault too.

i have removed the aol antispyware even though i called aol they said that it should not do this and i it would have prompted me and shown in the log.

i reinstalled limewire and it lasted a week and a half and now it is gone again. it is almost as if they are making it free trial only.

if anyone has any more suggestions, please let me know, or what other programs anyone can recommend

thanx

As suggested by AaronWalkhouse, this generally only happens due to anti-spyware utilities. So I imagine you have another somewhere or else, you didn't uninstall the other properly. AFAIK AOL uses PestPatrol which is reknown to do this. The option is to put LW on its safe-list. All anti-spyware programs will have a safe-list where you can add a program that the spyware utility will ignore.

BTW although most spyware programs will prompt you, it depends upon how you have it set up. We (& the spyware forums) recommend these utilities: 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also 2. Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE)
