Pleeeeze help me ! Can't uninstall the old version! Talk about frazzled! I've spent hours trying to do a simple upgrade, and it is sooooo frustrating. I want to upgrade Limewire to the newest version, but I can't uninstall the old version. I've tried ccleaner but it doesn't recognise Limewire. The uninstall part of it seems to be lost. Limewire is not on the Start Menu/Program Files; its not on the Add/Remove programs and I can't manually delete the files because it won't let me. I've upgraded Limewire a few times and I've got a lot of icons in my Limewire file. I want to do a clean install. Pleeze. Anybody. I guess the question is: How can I manually delete Limewire from my system? |
Marianne You do not need to delete the old version of LW before you install the new one, I have always installed the new version over the older version without any problems. All you have to do is download the latest version of LW into a new empty directory/folder and run the installation from there. LW will automatically find the correct place to install itself and delete the old version. UK Bob |
Thank you Bob I know that LW is supposed to install over the old version, but mine wasn't doing that properly. The older version was corrupted. I did a system restore, and took it back till I had an uninstall, and then uninstalled it properly. I then re-installed the new version over a few files left in the old folder and its working beautifully. Maybe I made a mistake by downloading the installer to the Limewire folder in the Program files - do you think? |
Can anyone help me please! Im having problems with my limewire program. I can't seem to open it, everytime I clicked it, it won't open. I tried downloading it again over a few times and I still have the same problem. what should I do? your help would be so much appreciated! thank you! |
What is your firewall? |
Garbagefan, I don't believe this is a firewall case. Anyways, Nic I would advise you that your problem is most likely caused by having insufficient RAM to run the application, or the application itself is clashing with either another application or Windows. It might some help if you could pm your OS and Total and Available Physical RAM. |
Rather than PMing details, if they could be posted in the open forum & discussed here, it could potentially help other users with similar problems;) |
Marianne Never, ever download anything directly into the Program directory/folder, you stand more chance of things going wrong that way than possibly any other process. Whenever you are going to download a program make sure that you download it into a separate folder, I have one specially created for that purpose called "Download". Once the download is complete I run the program from there, any well written application will use your temporary folder to expand in, use your Program folder to install itself in, set itself up and finally delete the stuff it placed in your temp folder. And that should be that. UK Bob |
