Tried everything?
For starters, why don't you tell us what you've tried:D

whythefUUCK August 17th, 2006 11:43 PM

Updated Java
Deleted .limewire folder
Downloaded Limewire again and reinstalled a newer version
Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 12:06 AM

Come back here man. Help me!

birdy August 18th, 2006 12:41 AM

When you updated Java, did you use the offline installer?
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Did you install Java first, then reinstall LW using it's offline installer too?

Has LW worked ok in the past?

Sleepless August 18th, 2006 12:47 AM

com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.GUILoader$StartupFailed Exception: invalid themes.jar

Have you changed the theme from the original in a previous version ?

If you have then you have not been succesful in deleting the preference folder

wkdsteve August 18th, 2006 01:23 AM

can someone help me, i dont want limewire to start up automatically once i turn my computer on, but i dont seem to be able to stop it, has anyone any ideas?

birdy August 18th, 2006 01:30 AM

Could you not post onto someone else's thread with a totally unrelated question? Just that it gets really confusing with 2 topics.

Is your LW starting only when you turn the computer on, or does it pop up all the time & refuse to stay closed?
If it's starting only the once when the computer's turned on... tools > options > system startup. Untick 'run at system startup' & apply.

If your LW's popping up constantly then it's a virus & point 4 below deals with it
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of
If you go to Norbiesworld, register & follow the directions for free computer help then Norbie will be able to help you to get rid of the virus.
Always use your AV program to scan a downloaded file before opening.

What Java should I install for the newest version of Limewire?

Install the JRE from the link I left before. Themes are skins. Have you changed skins for LW? Did you delete the LW preferences folder when LW was fully closed (ie check in task manager to make sure it's not still running)? The prefs folder's not always called .limewire, that's the old location of the folder.
Newer versions have the prefs at C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\LimeWire. It's a hidden folder, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to be able to delete it.

Are you looking in the Advanced section of options? You'll have to click to expand Advanced & then you should see System Startup.

I did everything you said.. There is no folder in the Application Data. And the Java thing didn't work.

And Limewire might have been open when I deleted .limewire.. But it was deleted.

Something has gone wrong when you deleted the preference folder.

Try Uninstalling Limewire through Start>Programs>Limewire>Uninstall. Then make sure that the prefs. have been deleted in both locations. Maybe even do a search for Lime after you done it and delete anything to do with Limewire.

Then download the offline installer from www.limewire.com and install

BTW the limewire prefs are in a hidden folder, so you have to be able to see the hidden folders

Did it. Still doesn't work.

Sleepless August 18th, 2006 05:03 PM

Still the same error message ?

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 05:15 PM

Hey do one of you guys have AIM or MSN? This would be a lot easier.

Yeah the same message.

Sleepless August 18th, 2006 05:23 PM

I have, but I'm also all out of ideas on what to try next so why bother

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 05:26 PM

What else can cause it? Limewire has always worked.

Sleepless August 18th, 2006 05:37 PM

I'll try to get someone else to have a look

Lord of the Rings August 18th, 2006 08:59 PM

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) And also look at steps 5 & 6.

Lord of the Rings August 18th, 2006 09:03 PM

A fresh install of both Java & LW using both of their "Offline" installers & deletion of prefs folder should do the trick.

BTW did you configure your firewalls & modem/router for upnp/port forwarding; Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 09:18 PM

I've done all of those things..

Well if you've tried all those things to the letter then the problem is your system. Reformat your computer & reinstall everything for a fresh start. You obviously have a corrupted system. Otherwise play around with kazaa.

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 09:23 PM

Well, Limewire has always worked.. All my other things work.

birdy August 18th, 2006 09:27 PM

Did this only happen after upgrading to 4.12.6?
No reason why it should work but have you tried going back to an earlier version, like you used when LW was running ok?

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 09:43 PM

I downloaded Limewire 2.04 and it works.

birdy August 18th, 2006 09:48 PM

Is that 4.2.04??? That's pretty old:eek:

whythefUUCK August 18th, 2006 09:54 PM

Ok Limewire 4 works too.. I guess I'll stay with this.

whythefUUCK August 26th, 2006 08:53 PM

AAAAAAAAAH

I've uninstalled every java I had on my computer, uninstalled everything from Limewire, reinstalled all of it, still doesn't work. Then I removed Java, and that was the closest I ever got to running Limewire when it said "Go to java.com and download java"!!! Then I tried going to java.com and installing a different version of Java, still didn't work!!

I can't run Limewire 4 anymore, it sucks ******* terribly, its slow as hell and I'm not used to it.

Peerless August 26th, 2006 09:19 PM

ermmm...whilst I use the Fbomb all the time, I gotta say that yur nick is a tad over the top for most any forum...

anyways, it seriously sounds to me like you've got some other issue besides LW...a type of issue usually caused by downloading some sort of BAD file...it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit if it was a file 'supplied' by the MAFIAA that was intended to make LW not work...now, since I have no earthly idea of just exactly what it did to your OS I can be of no help in that regards...but, I am quite sure that reformatting your HDD and doing a clean install and then reinstalling LW will work..sorry for the bad news, but its a fact of life if you wish to be a file sharer...I've had to do it quite a few times myself, so don't feel alone...

whythefUUCK September 1st, 2006 12:10 AM

Yeah I might have to reformat.. Kind of sucks.

whythefUUCK September 1st, 2006 12:47 AM

I downloaded FrostWire and it doesn't work either..

whythefUUCK September 2nd, 2006 08:18 PM

I did System Restore and went back a month in time (when Limewire worked), and now it won't even load.

Peerless September 3rd, 2006 09:47 AM

hmmm...then try this before you do a reformat: simply reinstall Java (sounds like you went back in time before you had java, hence LW and FW won't even launch as they require jave}

whythefUUCK September 3rd, 2006 12:38 PM

lol. I've done it all man..

deadaim54 September 3rd, 2006 12:47 PM

i'm have the same exact problem as everyone else, might there be a problem with the program rather than the computer.

deadaim54 September 3rd, 2006 12:57 PM

this might be alittle off topic, but i tried to use frostwire, after uninstalling and reinstalling limewire 12 times along with java 4 times. the problem is frostwire doesn't even bother to start. can some one help me

Sleepless September 3rd, 2006 01:37 PM

Just as a test I tried doing a clean install of the newest JAVA and Limewire basic to see what the fuzz was about and had no problems what so ever getting it to run

Over 3 years old Laptop.
1.7 GHrz Pentium 4.
224 MB Ram.
52 MB Ram integraded videocard
Windows XP Pro (Service pack 2. Automatic updates. Ran the patch in Download/Upload problems)
Limewire 4.12.6 basic (Offline install)
Java 5.0 update 8 (Offline install)
AVG Free Antivirus
Ewido Antispyware
Sygate personal firewall

whythefUUCK September 3rd, 2006 04:17 PM

Yeah, I don't know what it is.. I'm gonna try scanning for viruses with all the anti-virus programs I have (even though I already have scanned).. I've posted on geekstogo.com for computer help, there's nothing wrong with my computer. Limewire randomly stopped working.. I've tried everything recommended and even more.

Sleepless September 3rd, 2006 04:41 PM

Have you tried this Java. Download the offline installer

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp

have been using it for the last 10 versions and no problems

Remember to uninstall all Java before installing this one

whythefUUCK September 3rd, 2006 05:17 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA IT WORKS

I scanned with Spybot and AVG, uninstalled Limewire, uninstalled all java, and reinstalled everything. Damn this is weird. It works though
