help...set up dialog??? Limewire froze
 

PLease please please help... keep it basic, im new to all this. I had limewire running smoothly for months & months, one day it froze ! uninstalled & re installed newer version 4.12 .. says instalation complete, but it then freezes on a pop saying set up dialog click next to continue... and it jst freezes at that??? help ! i luv & miss my beloved limewire soooooooo much !

Use your add/remove programs control panel & remove Java. Then reinstall it using the "Offline" Java installer which is about 16 MB download; Java 1.5 (take the JRE) About 4rth on the list!

Also, delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Then try again opening LW.

BTW you might also want to consider Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! & apply it to files in the downld window that are zero % & go to your incomplete folder on your computer & arrange by size & remove files less than 20 KB. But careful not to remove the downloads.dat & .bak files.

Hi jst got your message about trying uninstall java ??? do i really need to do this as i used to have limewire running smoothly up until a couple of days ago?? because it froze i uninstalled and reinstalled with this new 4.12 version? but now it freezes on this set up dialog pop up box ? Also I went to add/remove progs. like u said and I have a few java mentioned there? which one do i remove ???? java 2 runtime environment SEv1.4.2_03 and _06 also J2SE runtime envirnoment 5.0 update 2, 4, and 6 ???? Sorry im a bit of a dunder head !!! but please help! doh !

I'd suggest you remove them all. You don't need all of them as most of your applications will be using the most recent version instead.

Hi me again.... Doh ! Okely dokely... this is where im at ... I tried everytin u said, just no luck... soooo the new version ive uninstalled that and got my old version back... problem still there its freezin on some old downloads that I had running... any solutions to how to fix that ? LW version 4.8.1 i have windows XP ... also when u say about deleting LW preference folder .. i really dont know what u mean and where to start ??? soz im a dumpling ;) told u keep it basic im rather simple ! But many thnx for trying to help

Ps I managed the java stuff...

There's sample images about where to find your LW prefs folder in posts 3 & 4 here Fixes for Limewire. Exactly where you find it depends upon whether you've deleted them before or not & had earlier versions running.

BTW if you've gone back to an earlier version, then you should definitely delete your LW prefs folder. This is because LW 4.8.1 will attempt to behave like LW 4.12 & have problems. Also going back in versions will mean your incomplete files will not load, but you can reload them via the library window.
