LW will not open after upgrade to 4.12.6 Since I upgraded to Version 4.12.6 Lime Wire will not open. I copied the firewall directions for XP but they tell me to open the program and note the Listening Port. I can't do that because the program won't open. Is this enough info? Please help. Thanks. |
Try removing your current Java version & reinstall JRE using the offline installer (point 1 in the thread below) Fixes for LimeWire Also try deleting the preferences folder (points 2 & 3). If that doesn't work, try changing compatibility (point 5) or reinstall LW using the offline installer http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml :) |
Birdy, I have now tried all of this. The error message I STILL get when trying to open this new version is "LW was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a Firewall Program Blocking LW access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LW access to the internet and restart LW." I have also turned off the Windows XP Firewall and set Limewire for "Permit All" in my Norton Firewall. This is quite frusterating because we'd never had a problem with the old version (that we originally paid for) and I haven't been able to open the program since I finally opted to upgrade after the many requests. Any other ideas? Thanks, -Mason- |
Have you tried reconfiguring your Norton firewall? See LOTR's post below, it has links http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...97&postcount=2 A few people have found that they've had to start from scratch with Norton, after updating their LW. If that's no help, post back with your details (forgive the repeat questions!) OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school, student accommodation etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW How did you have your router set up for the old version of LW (port forwarded, UPnP enabled or neither)? |
