Help needed : Limewire Runs REALLY slowly on Windows XP SP 2 Hey all, I looked at a lot of the other threads here but I couldn't really find one that helped me out much, and i need this a little urgently!! My limewire not only starts up slowly... It runs slowly enough for me to not even be able to click search or type in names. It works pretty well in the first few mins off opening it (which btw takes around 2 minutes literally to open up) but after about 5 minutes or so limewire begins to work seriously slowly. I got a 1024 mb ram, i dont share any upload files cept the ones in my limewire folder which are maybe 100 in number, my downloads are restricted to 3 at a time!! So I don't think it's too much happening on my limewire for it to work slowly! and nothing else is open on my computer either, no other program is running when i use limewire (well, primarily cause it works so slowly it's near impossible to use any other progs!) yeah not only my limewire works slow, it reduces my computer's speed too. I've tried reinstalling a million times, i've tried using the offline installer, i've tried using both older and newer versions, i've tried using pro, i've looked for the winupdate virus in the windows fetch ... folder and my anti virus is always on doesnt really show no virus. Cleared spyware and malware, so basically nothing really runs when limewire is running and it still works at the pace of a snail!! Please Help, we seem to have quite a few geniuses here anyway! Some one save me!! |
Try these then: 1. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 2. (a) Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Speed & disable ultra-peer capabilities, (b) Tools -> Options -> iTunes & disable sharing in iTunes. Set both uploads & downloads to auto-clear, Close all LW windows you don't need open at that time. If you're not in front of your comp, then hide LW in the dock/tray. Don't use the Resume/Find Sources button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time. |
