Setup error message when installing into another account on same computer! My daughter has been using Limewire Basic for sometime now with no problems, I downloaded it onto my user name with no problems but another daughter wishes to download it onto her name (all same computer) but I get a setup error message when I try, which reads Error opening file for writing C:/program files/Limewire/genericwindowsutils.dll if I look at the details it reads, output folder C:/program/files/Limewire extract: COPYING can't write C:/program files/Limewire/genericwindow utils.dll Not being terribly computer au fait, I just need to know, step by step how to go about rectifying this problem, thanks in advance to all those better informed than myself!! |
In any case, you don't need to install the program into each account. It is possible to use shortcuts. The admin of the computer sends shortcuts to the desktop & also possibly the start menu items for each user account. |
Thanks Lord of the Rings, however I don't even know how to do that!!! der.... Also, when I double click on the Limewire desk top icon I am now getting a set up error message asking me to reinstall the program, which I can't do because of the first error message........... |
Uninstall from the account that it doesn't work. ie: go to Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall. Then go to the account LW does work in, then right-click the program & choose to create Shortcut & send to these locations of the accounts you want LW to be used in: C:\Documents and Settings\Account name\Desktop C:\Documents and Settings\Account name\Start Menu I guess you could copy the shortcuts from the desktop instead & send them to the above locations. However just the desktop should suffice. |
Chirst, would you believe I can't even do this!!! it says the shortcut has been changed or modified, what can I do next???? |
do the above....go directly to the LimeWire.exe located in C:\Program Files\LimeWire...right click on it and choose create shortcut( do this while in your account)...then copy/paste this short cut directly to C:\Documents and Settings\**daughter's account**\Desktop...then log off your account, log on to your daughter's account, and see if it works |
Right, have managed to do it!!!!:yahoo: Got there by my usual bumbling around  BIG THANKS EVERYONE:super: |
