Help with upgrade

Hello, I am new here on the forum and this is my first time on and I am looking for help!!!!!
I was upgrading from the Limewire that I had to the newer version on the basic level. When it got to the point that it said that another version of Limewire was running and that I needed to shut it down, I did not know how to. I did not have it running on the bottom of the screen and I did not have it up on the desktop. So I "ignored" that and it continued on, but when it was done downloading it said that I had a corrupt version in the newer version and that I needed to do it again. I tried and had the same thing happen.
I must tell you that I am not a very experienced user on the computer, so please be patient with me. If anyone can tell me what to do so that I can get the newer version that would be wonderful. I really enjoy Limewire and now that I have tried to upgrade it won't even let me access my old Limewire. I do not want to lose all of my songs as I have downloaded a bunch, can anyone help me? Thanx in advance.

Go into task manager (ctrl-alt-del) & see if any LW process is running. If it is...end the process.

Go start > all programs > limewire & use the uninstall option there to remove LW (if you get an error here, let us know what it says).

Next, install Java using the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) offline installer. Go to add/remove programs & remove your old version of Java before you install the new one.

Now reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer, not the recommended one (fewer corrupt installation problems with the offline installer).

One other question

Hello, birdy, I am wondering if I end the process in the task manager, it says that I will possibly lose all the files in Limewire.....I do not want to lose my music that is in there........will the files be lost if I do this? And if not will they be lost if I uninstall Limewire and reinstall the new one? Is there any way to save my music? Sorry for all the ?'s/

Your downloaded files are saved in a folder on your computer. So just go ahead & end the process (I guess it was still running?). I've done it heaps of times:) If that other version of LW's running you won't be able to install your new version.
