Necessary Files appear To be Invalid

Hello,

I have had limewire for about a week now and everything has been running relativley smoothly until today. I tried to open limewire but instead of limewire opening a message appeared saying: "One or more neccesary files appear to be invalid. This generally caused by a corrupted installation. Please try downloading and installing Limewire again." Then it says if this problem persists to visit here and below that it gives out a report with data.
I looked into the add/remove programs section and it is no longer there. Also I have purchased my limewire so I'm a little upset about losing something I have paid for.I don't think its a virus or worm because I have multiple anti-virus, spyware, etc. programs. If anybody has a fix or a solution, please share with me. Oh, by the way my OS is Windows XP Pro 2002. Thank You.

Update

Ok, I am scanning my PC now with a anti-virus program called a-squared Free 2.1 and it is picking up some files called:

Trace.Directory.LimeWire 4.12 - 1 traces - medium risk

Trace.File.Limewire 4.12 -20 traces - medium risk
(both of these were detected in limewire)

Ok so what I want to know, (as well as my problem above), is what are these? should I delete them? I may have previously deleted them, is this an issue? Thanks for the help. :( :bangh:

Don't ever uninstall LW via Add/Remove Programs...it can cause problems! Use the LW uninstaller. Start > All Progs > LW & use the uninstaller there;) Also, installing another version of LW will automatically remove the old version.

First of all, update Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove any old Java versions before installing the new one.

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 below.
Fixes for LimeWire

Last of all, reinstall LW. You can download another Pro version whenever you like, using your personal download link. I'm a bit worried here, because you seem concerned about 'losing' the LW that you paid for. I'm hoping you haven't been scammed:) If you bought Pro from www.limewire.com then you'll have your personal download link, which you can use for 6 months. Basic LW is free & is available here

Always use the offline installer.

Step Back

Thanks Birdy for responding so quickly and with lots of information. But while this may be my PC and while I do have a basic knowledge on how computers operate. I dont want to get into something too complicated and I dont want to delete stuff without knowing what exactly I'm doing. So I'm going to wait a couple hours when my Father gets home from work before I try your tips. He's better at this kind of stuff. So I dont know what time zone your in, but I'm on Hawaiian time and he wont get home for another 5 hours. So once again thanks for the help, but I dont want to overstep my boundries in terms of knowledge just yet.

Hi Birdy can you help me

Hi,
You seem to know your stuff. I used to be on the free limewire and now have pro. I upgraded because all of a sudden I couldn't play my files. I can play them in the windows media player but not on the limewire player. I have checked that it is selected and have shut down a restarted but I can't seem to get it working - nor can I find any info on this particular problem on the limewire web site. If you can help that would be great or anyone else reading this that knows something about it. I noticed someone else has posted the same problem but couldn't find any replies on this. Thanks for any input folks cuz I'm stumped.

Hi,
I really don't know why you'd want to use the LW player (I find it pretty awful) but if you really want to use it, try this: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things.

Thanks

Hey thanks Bird,
I checked out the pages you sent me and printed them off. I will attemp the suggestions when I have a chance - my little one keeps me busy. I just find the player convenient while searching for new tunes. Thanks and I'll let ya know how things turn out.

Still Stumped

I'm having the same message come up, I've tried all of the suggestions posted but I STILL cannot use, or open, Limewire. Any other suggestions?
