Limewire booting up then crashing(after installed)

Every time I try to start up limewire, It just closes itself.. Over and over. I've tried reinstalling 14,000 times. Ive removed all my anti-virus software and removed and reinstalled my java like twice. Anybody know what could be causing this? I've never been able to open it as well.

Check the options here Fixes for Limewire. When you install either LW or Java, DON'T use the online installer. Use the "Offline" installers.

Did you try the advice given by Lord of the Rings? If that doesn't help, could you please provide us with a little more information?

when i try to repair limewire thorough add/remove it doesn't give me that option only to remove it

i use windows media edition

limewire pro 4.12.3

tried to uninstall and removed all folders
used norton internet security but turned it all off

When it opens it opens sometimes for a few seconds then it closes automatically

it worked before-
i use torrent loaders like u torrent and bitlord
use restore system settings doesn't work somehow tried that too
modem zyxel provider tiscali
no other p2p
java newest download

another failure with my internet connection lately is it fails after 2 hours and have to log off and start up again....

tried for virus but my system is completely clean

Another user with the same problem. LW installed cleanly, no errors.
I click on the shortcut or the .exe, the LW splash-screen pops up for about one second and then disappears. That's it. Nothing in the system tray, no LW no nothing.

Uninstall/Reinstall of LW does not help.
Running in Windows 2000 compatibility mode does not help.
Shutting off AV, Firewall, etc. - does not help.
Deleted the preferences folder as well. Does not help.
Tried reinstalling Java (offline) and the offline installer of LW. Stil nothing.

david - just so you know, Tiscali is known to shape the bandwidth of p2p users. Search these forums for 'Tiscali' and you can see for yourself. You have problems with your general internet connection every 2 hours?

You shouldn't uninstall Limewire via add/remove programs. Use the uninstall feature.

You could try rolling back to the previous version of Java. Some are having trouble with the newest release.

Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5

Did you try deleting your preference folder as suggested in the link provided by Lord of the Rings?

Also, have either of you tried this?

Go to your Limewire folder (within program files) and double-click on the file called limewire (executable jar file).

Some people can get Limewire to open this way when it won't open otherwise.

Ack... Maybe I'm just stoopid, but what solved the problem for me was (once again) uninstalling Java (via the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel) and reinstalling Java ... BUT ... This time I installed the JDK version, NOT just the usual Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Reinstalled LW and, voila!! Problem solved!

Maybe it's been made clear elsewhere, but I don't think most users would install the JDK verison of Java unless explicitly told to. I certainly didn't think that's what was required, but it appears it may be.

Top download on this page, the J2SE(TM) Development Kit 5.0 Update 11.
