Default Uninstall Limeware

Windows XP Pro SP2

I made a big mistake and installed a program from fullsoftwaredownload.net
All the programs I downloaded were infected with trojan horses.
I uninstalled the program but now on start-up the following programs start :
Limewire
Morpheus
Sheharaza

Lime wire is installed in c:\program files\limewire
But I cannot see it - or the other two programs - in the Add/Delete list in the Control Panel, nor in the start-up list

How do I disable these three programs at start-up or - failing that - uninstall them

All advice gratefully received.

Regards

John

Are you sure your computer is virus free? I like this online scanner: Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety. Do the full scan. It'll take a couple hours but it's worth it.

To disable LW from running at startup, open LW and go to Tools>Options>Advanced>System Startup, and uncheck the box and click apply. To uninstall limewire, go to C:\Program Files\LimeWire\Uninstall.exe. Double click it to uninstall LW. I'm not sure about the other two, but check their folder in the Program Files folder. Also try going to Start > All Programs and see if they're listed and if they have the option to uninstall them.

To disable programs from running on startup, you can go to your System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run, and type msconfig and click ok. When the utility opens, click on the "Startup" tab and uncheck the programs you don't want to run on startup and click apply > ok > restart. Hope it helps.

I installed the basic and went back and got the pro. It will not let me install it because it says an earlier version is running. I went to add/delete programs and thought I got rid of the first. I have Windows XP. I went to the search and found files for limewire it will not let me delete. Help.

I am a new member and this is a wonderful program. I am putting together a music program for a party a friend is having this weekend.

Thank you for your help.

You don't really say whether you have cleaned up your computer. Have you run antivirus software? Did you do the scan recommended by 6pac?

When you get Limewire running, STAY AWAY from the programs section. It is loaded with infected files.

You should not uninstall LW via add/remove programs. But, what you need to do is just what you tried...you have to search your computer for 'limewire' and delete all traces. Are you getting an error message when you try to delete? Are you using a copy of LW that you paid for, i.e. that you're sure is not infected or crippled? I use this program for files that just won't delete:

DelinvFile - Utility for Deleting Invalid Files and Folders

Good Luck

Dan

Another thing you could try is open your task manager(Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and click on the Processes tab and see if LimeWire.exe is listed. If it is, right click it and end the process. Then try to install LW Pro again.

Muhctekdano is right! If you do not remove ALL TRACES of Limewire like he said you will have problems FOREVER. Another program for COMPLETE delete in the register is "Registry Crawler" that can be downloaded for a free trial. I would also go for a cold shutdown for ten minutes after you delete Limewire as a precaution, computers need to rest too, haha. Like Muh said do a Search and delete too. Good luck
