Problems re-installing I have been a limewire user for quite a few months, and earlier today, my sister installed limewire on her own user account my limewire has mysteriously gone missing. opening the limewire icon on my desktop will create a message: windows is searching for limewire exe, to locate the file yourself, click browse. I opened limewire installer to try and reinstall it, and i got as far as the installation. Midway through, it was aborted because "limewire cannot create uninstall information". trying to uninstall limewire, i came up with the same message: Windows is searching for uninstall... etc. so now i cant use limewire, and i cant reinstall or uninstall it either. is this related to my sister downloading limewire on her user account? I have a large collection of my favourite songs and i would hate to lose them. if anyone could make sense of this, id appreciate it vry much. ace |
Hmm interesting. Actually don't need 2 versions of LW on same system. What I think has happened is your sister's installation has removed your LW. And because it was installed from her account, you can't uninstall it or much more likely, your uninstaller is now invalid. The answer is to create a shortcut from her LW installation & send copies to both your account Start menu options & also desktop. I am not sure but she may need to do that for you. But not necessarily. Remember the program folder is a shared folder so to speak. It caters for all users on the computer & is not found in user accounts. So ... But don't worry, since your LW preferences will be as were before & your incomplete files prefs will also be within your account so both will be safe. ;) |
after performing a total recovery, attempt to re install from backup, external hard drive, has failed. error message file corruption likely cause of failure. I had purchased and down loaded the Pro version. |

after crash I have copied the folder, limewire, from the back up and pasted to a new folder on the C: attempts to re install from the hard drive fail error message as stated earlier...corrupt file requires down load. Unfortunetly for me experation date for down loading has expired and requires a new subsciption...more money |
What version LW is it? Make sure no other versions of LW are installed. If yes, uninstall them. Then try again. Perhaps even try changing compatibility mode of installer (eg: right-click & change it to 2k or win nt), though not sure that should be needed. |
Thank you for your interest and help. I don't know how to determine the version, I did down load it March 24th, 2005. No other LW is loaded as I am recoverying from a complete restoration and re formatting of the hard drive. When last all was well with the world my OS was and is Windows XP media edition |
Multiple Computors Can you access your lime wire account on more than one computor?? |
No LM was down loaded to my desk top and only ran from there. Other than coughing up the additional fee is there another possibility to down load the LW pro. The edition which I had worked just fine. |

What version Java are you using? Try these things: 1. Remove all versions of Java using your Add/Remove Control panel. Then reinstall using Java 1.5 Offline installer; Java 1.5 (take the JRE). I am not sure how it handles with Java 1.6, & some pro users had problems with Java 1.6 Attachment 3573 2. Since you are installing "Offline", turn all firewalls, all antivirus, all anti-spyware, etc. off whilst you install LW. 3. "If" it installs fine. Make sure you add LW to clearance on your Firewall & put on safety list of anti spyware soft. etc. |
