LW closes as soon as it opens. I had a PC crash and had to reformat the hard drive. Since then LW closes as soon as its been through the opening screen. I've done the things suggested, ie. update Java (version 6.1), install the old version of Java, download LW from the manual install version and nothing seems to work. Everything on LW worked fine until we reformatted the hard drive. Help! Denise |
Try deleting your preferences folder when LW's properly closed (check in Task Manager). See point 3 below & also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past...there might be a folder in either or both locations. Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards. Depending on what old version of Java you tried reinstalling...see if this version's any better. Reinstall Java & use the JRE offlilne installer for this version. Make sure to remove any old Java versions before you install this other one! Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 If you're still stuck then change compatibility (point 5 in the 'fixes' thread). |
LW is still closing OK, I've downloaded and installed Java 5.11. I've removed the LW file from the Documents & Settings folder, and I've tried changing the compatability to Windows 2000. It is still disappearing after start up. Any further ideas? Thanks Denise |
When you deleted the preferences folder, did you look in both locations? Don't forget that one location's hidden by default. You could try changing compatibility to NT, that's worked for some people. What security programs are you using (particularly antispyware)? Have you installed or updated any security programs since the reformat? |
LW closes as soon as it opens Birdie, thanks for helping. Yes, I did delete the file from both locations. I'm using Avast antivirus software (we were using Norton but our subscription ran out and we haven't renewed it as Nortons seems to slow everything up and causes problems with MSN) and we have Spyware Blaster. I must admit we weren't using these before the crash. Denise |
Try this.... Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!) If that doesn't work try searching your computer for any thing that may be left over from Norton or Symantec.... |
