Which version of Java are you using? Some people have had trouble with the latest Java updates. Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before installing this one (it's easy enough to reinstall a later Java if it turns out that Java's the problem).
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here.
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the latest version of LW (4.14.8) & make sure to use the offline installer (when you click to download LW & the download box pops up, cancel that & you'll see the option to use the offline installer).
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If all that fails, right click on the LW desktop icon > properties > compatibility & run in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT. If you're using Vista, run in compatibility mode for XP.

Sorry, birdy, but none of the suggestions that you list seem to correct the issue!! Tried them all and still can't get 4.14.8 to start! It's so much fun watching the splash screen "open" all aspects of the program, just to disappear and not actually start! I see you have a lot of posts, do you happen to be part of the LW team? I would love to have a response to my Pro paid for support requests!

The helpers here don't work for LW...we're volunteers. I can't comment on Pro support as I've never tried to use it

If you think there's a bug in the latest version, try posting on the forum below, some of the developers hang out there.

Thanks birdy for the reply! I'll also post where you suggest! I know I sound bitter, but I have purchased and re-purchased the pro version to support the product over the years. I have even paid on a per computer basis as I have always felt that this was a product worth our financial support! I am dismayed that I have received ZERO response from the LW team and hope that this changes soon! Thanks again!

Have you tried changing Java versions &, if that doesn't work, deleting the preferences folder? See post #2 for details. Those fixes have worked for quite a few people.
