Default firewall issue i think...please HELP =(

Hi, i formatted my computer and installed an older version of limewire (4.9.30 I believe). After installation I try to open and it goes through the setup wizard. I get to the point where it tells me limewire needs needs to receive info from the network to function properly (the first firewall screen). I proceed and click NEXT but then the wizard just closes and I can't get any further.

I have checked my Java and also my norton firewall, which I don't have and also my wireless internet router, all of which seem to be working fine. I even tried turning off both my windows firewall and an NVIDA Firewall I have but I still can't get passed that screen without the setup wizard shutting down.

I also have tried the newer 4.12 version of limewire, but after installing this version when i click the shortcut or try to run limewire, it opens the loading screen then just closes and nothing loads.

There is no freezing, it just seems like the setup wizard in v4.9 closes and I can't even get to the setup wizard in v4.12

Hopefully my problem makes sense, I've been trying to fix it for the past 2-3 hours and haven't gotten anywhere. Any help is MUCH appreciated, thanks!!

I would try to stick with the newer version of LW, as it is more likely to work with your newer Java. What version of Java do you have (should be able to see it in add/remove programs). Try this version if you have 1.6.1 and it's not working.

Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

You could also try deleting your preferences folder (instructions in link):

Fixes for Limewire

If you still need help, post your details:

Good Luck

alright, i uninstalled all my versions of java and installed the offline version and then installed the new 4.12 version of limewire and deleted those 2 limewire and limewire. folders.

it looks like everything is up and running, i dont know what fixed it, but i have a feeling it was the java, since i couldnt get it to even load at first.

thanks so much for your help, i really appreciate it, i was getting super frustrated the other night trying to get this to work, so thanks again
