LimeWire Quits as soon as it starts. I had been using LW (I forget which version) on XP Pro without a worry about a year ago, and have since installed XP MCE 2005. I Figured I would get LW again, so I downloaded the newest one, installed jre-1_5_0_11, then installed LW, it went fine. When I started it, it would show the splash screen, load successfully, show the main page, then immediately quit, leaving an icon in the tray which would disappear if I hovered the mouse over it. The same thing happens with FrostWire aswell. I have gone into the application data folder and deleted the LW folder, but it still quits when I try to start it. I have spent about an hour looking on these forums for a solution, so this really is a last ditch effort. Thanks in advance for any help you guys may be able to offer. Edit: My pc specs are as follows: CPU: AMD Athlon64 3500+ @~2.2GHZ RAM: 512mb DDR2 GFX: nVidia 7300GS Router: D-Link DSL-G604T |
Do you have other Java versions still on your computer (besides the 1.5.0_11)? If you do, remove the other versions. Have you used older versions of LW in the past? You could have a preferences folder in the old location of C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.limewire...if you have that .limewire folder then delete it. Try changing compatibility. Right click on the LW icon on your desktop > properties > compatibility. Run in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT. :) |
Nah I uninstalled all other versions of Java first, and I haven't used any other versions of LW before on this computer. Tried running in all the available compatibility modes, still not working. |
Uninstall LW (start > all progs > LW & use the uninstall option there). Reboot & then use the computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name, delete whatever you find. Now reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer (when you click to download & the dialog box pops up, cancel that & use the option to download the offline installer). Do you have an old LW installer somewhere, to check whether an older version works properly? |
Have done all of the above, except trying an older installer, I don't happen to have one,is there an archive where I could get one? |
