Limewire "Installation Successful" but Limewire Setup Dialog has problem

I've read so many good reviews about Limewire that I was dying to download and install it.

The download went fine, ending in a "Limewire Installation Successful" message.

The, I went to run it for the first time, and ran into a problem with the Setup process.

Here's the exact sequence of setup windows, and what happens at each step:
  1. Language Options.. works fine.
  2. Save Folder... works fine.
  3. Connection speed... works fine.
  4. System and Startup ... works fine.
  5. Firewall setup... Problem. I think there's an invisible button at the bottom of the window that s/b clicked, but can't get to it.
Maybe unrelated... at this point there's a 2nd open window, a Setup Progress Window. When setup gets to 12% complete, I get stuck, since there seems to be a "hidden" button that should be clicked, but for some reason the button is probably at the bottom of the window (actually, below the botton). No attempts to expand or stretch the window work.

I checked the screen resolution, and tried varying resolution... no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled... no avail. I read the various Forums (fora?) and tried several ideas, but none fit my problem exactly, and none worked.

My system is an Intel P4 with 1.5 Gig of RAM, 50+GB of free hard drive space, running an up to date version of Windows XP. I've run various dianostic programs and my registry seems clean, and I have no viruses nor mal-ware.

I run MacAfee Systems security, and (since Limewire downloaded OK), it doesn't seem to be a problem).

Sorry to ask for help, but I've invested two hours in this and am just out of ideas, short of installing a non-flat panel display to see if the display is somehow "squeezing" the Limewire setup window to hide some buttons (I have a 19" flat panel on my PC, and can't easily find or borrow an older CRT to try this).

Thanks,

Boca Dave

ps. Until now I would have described myself as a fairly experienced PC user, and one whom others go to for advise. I don't often need help, but I sure do need it now.
:confused::o:thankyou::lamo:

Try deleting your LW Preference folder. Instructions in this thread (point 3): Fixes for Limewire. If that doesn't work, try the other fixes listed in that thread.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I followed your recommendations, and while the 1st one (deleting the Limewire folder) didn't seem to solve the problem, your 2nd solution, starting in Windows 2000 compatibility mode) worked like a charm.

For the benefit of future readers, here's the fix:

Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatibility setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Thanks again,
