Limewire not running Got a new hard drive. Tried to install limeware 4.14.8 - no luck. Checked forums, uninstalled Java, downloaded Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11. Uninstalled previous installation of LW. Disconnected internet connection. Rebooted system. Installed Java. Installed LW. Reconnected internet. Started LW. Back to the install screen. Gone through about 10 versions of this scenario, including Java update 12, and version 6, as well as an older version of LW. Also tried installing online. Noticed that sometimes LW shows up on the Task Manager, although no interface appears. Had older version of LW on the old drive (now defunct) and like the product. Can somebody help? PLEASE?!? |
If you see Limewire running in the task manager select the end process now option... Make sure you also uninstalled limewire using the correct method... Try these tips in this order...;) Uninstall all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version.... Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link... Lime Wire » Download LimeWire If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s... Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista |
Followed instructions (with multiple re-boots) - unloaded Java- disconnected internet, rebooted, reloaded Java offline (turned off auto update feature- good?/bad? ) Rebooted. Checked for LW in task manager, not running. Uninstalled LW. Searched for LW folders, all gone. Reinstalled LW offline. Final results: After install, LW starts the setup dialog (file locations, auto start, etc.) At the autostart dialog, the buttons are no longer visible except for the very tops. Pressing the return key allowed progression to the next screens: Firewall, content filtering and finish. When I check task manager, LW is not running. Click the icon, it starts the setup dialog again, during which time LW appears in task manager. Ran through the scenario again. Afterwards, LW disappears from task manager again. I have gotten no closer. Any other ideas? Thanks |
Try these... Right-click the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!) |
Sorry I violated the rules... I'm running XP so I skipped the first step and ran as admin. Same old story. Went back to setup mode. I went back to the previous step and changed compatibility to Win 98, just for kicks. Nothing happend at all. When I went to change it back, XP wasn't an option. For fun, (of which I'm having sooo much), I changed it to 2000. Noticed that the interface was slightly different, and the dialog boxes mentioned on my previous post had all button accessible! Strangely enough, it seems to be working! Go figure. |

Try playing your files through a third party player ie. itunes or WMP etc... To disable LW player go to Tools > Options > Player and untick the box and select apply... To make another player your default player Go to your shared folder (outside of Limewire) you will find this folder by clicking on one of your files in your LW library and clicking explore... Right click on one of your MP3 files Select open with Select choose program select your player and tick the box that says always use this program to open this file type Select OK |
