Formatted My HDD and now New installation of LW - Error Message at Start Up - Help ?

Hey,

New to the forums. Never had glitches with LimeWire in the past...until now!

It's installed and running the latest version of LW, yet I get an Error message at start up which is:

LimeWire was unable to write a necessary file because you do not have the necessary permissions. Your preferences may not be maintained the next time you start LimeWire, or LimeWire may behave in unexpected ways.

Is there something that I need to do that I haven't done? What kind of error is this??? How do I get rid of it??

Hi and welcome...

Please understand that I am not blowing you off here with the following reply...

What I hope I am doing for you is reducing the time it is going to take you to solve your probs...

So, having said the above, please do a search within these Gnutellaforums for similar problems...

There are currently several issues related to newer versions of LimeWire that are causing many problems for many people.
Especially updates and Java installs...

It is probable that you will find the solution(s) for your problem(s) far quicker by checking out the existing threads and posts.

Obviously, if you have no joy and your problems persist, post again and eventually someone here will get you back 'on the air' !

Good news is that downloading is still possible. However searching through tera quads of data I don't have time for. Unfortunately. I've been having computer problems for a about a month and recently had to erase my hard drive. Hence the trying to re-install almost everything from scratch! I barely have time to do that. So if someone could help me figure out the prob this way it would be greatly appreciated. My time is quite limited, yet I need my computer fully functional and reliable (which right now it is barely).

Just make sure your running as the Administrator of your computer...

If you already are this may help...

6. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

Umm...am already running under administrator account...now what??

Near as I know that is not the case.

Something weird is going on. I find it strange that I've been using this software for a couple of years and never had any glitches til now. Any more ideas how to get rid of this warning?

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If that doesn't work, reinstall Java. Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before you install this one.
