Error 1628

I'm running Win2k Professional and I can't seem to successfully install LimeWire. I continually get an error message of 1628: Failed To Complete Installation. What could be the problem?

Is it possible that you have an older version of LimeWire installed? If so, you should remove it (them) from the Control Panel Add/Remove programs window. I would also restart your machines before running the installer again.

Remove all limewire components in the registry. There may only be one ---
Go to Start, Run then type regedit
First back up your registry because you can cause some serious damage here if you are not careful---
Go into Registry, Export registry file
Then give it a name regbak and save it somewhere you can find it like My documents.
To find limewire select F3 and a "find window" appears--- type in "limewire" and when it finds it then delete this key. Hit F3 again and so on until it has finished finding.
Close regedit and get out of there, it scares me to death! I learned the hard way.
Then re launch the downloaded limewire exefile.
This worked for me.
If you delete something you should'nt have, you can restore the registry by opening the previously saved regbak.bak file

Had the same problem. I downloaded Java JRE 1.3.1 and that fixed it for me.

I have Windows XP and downloaded Java JRE 1.3.1 but it did not fix the error.
