Music won't play, & if LW is closed, WMP won't play them either

alright here is my problem i downloaded the free version of limewire and i have no problem getting music or anything but when i try to play the songs they wont play at all. i tried transfering them to my windows media player but if limewire isnt running on my computer the songs wont play. so im just curious if anyone has had this problem and what they did to fix it. any and all help will be greatly appreciated
