LW Opens but locks up computer

A friend of mine has had LW on her computer for a while now and just recently has experienced issues with LW. When she opens LW is locks up the computer and she's not able to do anything on the computer. So I took the computer and did a full system restore and reloaded all of the software that she had loaded on the computer before including Limewire. I was able to get LW to work while I had the computer at my place but once I returned the computer to her place LW wouldn't work and it would lock up like before. LW opens but thats all it does and then the computer just locks up....

Does anyone have ideas on how I can fix this problem???

What makes matters worse is I can take my laptop to here place and connect to her high speed internet connection and I'm able to open LW on my laptop and it works without any issues...

Frustrated...Please help

1. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link)

2. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

ie: chances are she has far too many incomplete files. Many of which might be fakes which make LW work overtime. Get rid of the incompletes & hopefully things will be back to normal. :)

If still problems after that, get her to reduce amount of shared files if more than 1,000

Lord of Rings:

I think I left out something very important in my first post...When I had the her computer at my place on my high speed interenet I have no issues with LW running or locking up her computer but as soon as I took her computer back to her place and connected to her high speed internet is when LW locked up and wouldnt let me do anything?

I can connect my laptop computer to her internet connection at her place and LW that is loaded on my computer works fine with no problems??

Could it have something to do with her ISP blocking it? Is there a setting in LW that has to be changed?

Probably missing many details. What type of connection, etc. etc. Are you using Linux, DOS, ... I don't have much a clue what the details are. Being able to lay out all possible details 'might' give us some idea. Otherwise it's pure guesswork & not really having a clue. "sighs" ! We have it stated in the forum rules to include system details. Sometimes we just ignore posts where people obviously haven't read the forum rules which are staring people in the face as guests, as soon as they sign up, and before their first post.

Connection Type: Comcast High Speed Internet
Operating System: XP
LW Verison: 4.18.3

I'm sorry that I didnt post this information prior the above information is for her place where we experience a problem with LW on her computer. But as stated before I can take my laptop to her place and LW works on my laptop without any problems at her place.

Is it a wireless connection? Try connecting (if the option if available) directly. Wireless devices do have their downfalls. Some worse than others. Bandwidth is inconsistent for a start.

. Another thought is to disable all performance options under Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance
. Under Tools > Options > Speed, disable OOB.
. Under Tools > Options > Connections, have it set to not start up immediately. _ Then after opening LW, wait a few minutes (perhaps 5 or more mins), then go to File menu > Connect.

Then see if same thing happens.

Oh .. and check Network settings under control panels ... is there a DNS number?

There in no wireless connection involed at this point, when we use the internet at her place the computers are plugged in directly to the Comcast High Speed Modem. I will try anything at this point!!!!
