XoloX team... Suggestions!!

Suggestions:

Max Downloads.. Max Uploads like in KaZaA.... except the Max Downloads controls the Max Uploads.

Stop Button in the Search.

Ability to erase history in the auto-complete.

Ability to refine searches even more like in Gnucleus.

Supernodes? Ultrapeers? not sure if it has it or not...

Hashing?...

Ability to pause downloads.

If you think of anymore... Please post them here.

sorry, what?

> Stop Button in the Search.
not possible due to Gnutella protocol.

> Ability to refine searches even more like in Gnucleus.
could you describe?

> Ability to pause downloads.
right click, pause.

Suggestion

Will there be an update inside the server list options? I've added my own servers in the past and have wanted to delete a few but there's no option to do so and I now have no idea how many dead servers are sitting there.

Also, Welcome back guys, you're a sight for sore eyes.

kevogod May 4th, 2002 01:48 PM

Sorry about the pause suggestion.. heh..

As for the stop button.. it is possible because Swapper uses one and so does Gnucleus.. so it can have a stop search button...

The ability to refine searches like.. when you type in something like.. let's say Nickelback.. you come up with all the results for Nickelback... And to find each individual song all you would do is type How you remind me... in a search field and without pressing a button it automatically filters out the results without How you remind me in the name. And you can delete the Refined search words and all of your results would be there... ready to refine again.... Download Gnucleus at www.gnucleus.net to find out what I am talking about.

I think you should be able to decide how many uploads you can have... except when you make it 1 upload... you can have only 1 download... 2 uploads = 2 downloads... 3 ul = 3 dl... etc.

you can close a search anytime in xolox (and hide incoming results), click on the 'x'. stopping is not possible because of Gnutella protocol, it would be a fake button.

pausing/stopping search is NOT impossible, LimeWire does it all the time. :)

Did you read the previous post?

When you send a search request there is "NO" way to stop it!

If you STOP your search with Limewire this ONLY means that you block/hide the incoming results - nothing more!

then there should be a button that blocks/hides further incomming results. this is a good feature to have when you find what youre looking for within the first few results, so there is no reason to continue searching the incoming results.

"If you STOP your search with Limewire this ONLY means that you block/hide the incoming results - nothing more! "

this is true... limewire calls it "stopping" (although nothing really "stops") to make it easier for novice users to understand.

FYI when you stop searches in limewire, results continue to trickle in for a little while. it stops the search not the results from before you stopped it. :p

kevogod May 7th, 2002 05:46 PM

... I really don't care.. a stop button would make me feel better...

You send ONE search request and you cannot STOP this! The results need some time to return, you should read some articles how Gnutella works!

@ ariel

You donīt need to search the results anymore, start an other search! What we really need is a clear list option! :)

the person only wants to stop FUTURE searches without loosing the results already obtained, I know how gnutella works

dumbass

He should write what HE means, when there will be NO need for a translater!

I am not sure if Xolox sends more than one request, if not there is no need to STOP it!

yeah, it resends searches to get more results, in fact, each time someone is connected to the network, their server is scanned for files adding to the new results. XoloX v1.18 has improved its search method by reducing the frequency to the perfect balance but also implementing hashing to improve efficiency. Unlike other networks, xolox does not limit your searching capabilities nor results

Gamer June 7th, 2002 12:47 PM

Yes it does.

Everything in XoloX is based on upload limit. INCLUDING SEARCHING.

So why would you be calling people a "dumbass" when you dont even know what you're talking about yourself?

X_Man June 9th, 2002 08:55 AM

i was quoteing the xolox website FAQ dumb bass you can set bandwidth to 1 and it will still connect to over 6 hosts, but i don't need to prove ANYTHING to you, because i KNOW i'm right

KayaMan June 9th, 2002 02:46 PM

Xman no it won't. you may be confusing the connect attempts during launch. Active node connections are not 6 when bandwidth is set to 1.
( unless this build totally changed it )

And please don't use 'dumbass' and comments of the such , for future reference I will edit and/or delete posts that begin to get hostile - this is not the place for it.

edit: bandwith upload limit*

X_Man June 9th, 2002 03:05 PM

dumb bass

Gamer June 9th, 2002 03:47 PM

Wow, such a big word.. Generally the way it is, he thinks he knows more than everyone and thus everyone else is a 'dumbass'

ursula June 9th, 2002 04:59 PM

Strange

I think X_Man has something against fish.
Or maybe bass players? :p

X_Man June 9th, 2002 05:04 PM

What, you're not a bass player?
Not that I would kiss your guitar, either!:p

X_Man June 9th, 2002 05:41 PM

Gamer June 9th, 2002 08:57 PM

But yet you disrespect everyone else, including kaya on the forum he moderates.

Offtopic

Is it Just me or are you guys getting a little off-topic?

Anewayz I was wondering if theres something u guys at XoLoX can do about my little problem. XolOx takes up so many resources when i run it, i almost can run nothing else, i have 128 Megz of RAM, and it slows my whole system down to a crawl, well compared to how it would be otherwise running off a 1.7 Ghz processor. Can u guys do something to fix this in your next build or something? THANX :D
